DFS Administrator - Distributed File System

Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires a DFS Administrator to be based in their client's office in UK. You can work remotely until covid abates.

This is a 12-month temporary contract to start on 26th July 2021.

The right candidate must have 7+ years of pertinent experience in Windows systems administration and specifically in DFS & DFS-R

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for the health and exploitation of Windows DFS platform along with all products related to the server, paying attention to the operational activities, proactive capacity management and the surveillance of events.
  • Contribute to the execution of various projects and will provide a second level support for Microsoft systems.
  • Should be able to detect the issues related to performance, capacity or configuration issues including permission mismatch and come up with the working solution quickly for ensuring customer confidence.
  • Be thorough and meticulous to work under high pressure situation to execute the remediation plans smoothly.
  • Under pressure he/she should be able to convince the stake holders on different available options with pro & cons and guide the stake holder for right long-term solution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Windows File Shares Design, Planning, Implementation and Management
  • File Server/Data Migration
  • Administration of the name space server
  • Attachment, changes, and deletions of shares
  • Support for file-system extensions (Upgrades)
  • Hands on SMB and NTFS permissions and their implementation on large scale file systems.
  • Automation of many such activities thru PowerShell Scripting
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Analysis of reports to come up with meaningful data for end user consumption as required for various compliance requirement
  • Responsible for the functioning of DFS and DFSR systems
  • Oversee the system events to ensure its proper functioning, the maximum availability of the systems and quality of service
  • Data Migrations
  • Access controls validations and assist with Audit requirements
  • Assist users on the usage of best practices
  • Participate in the recovery and backup of Microsoft systems
  • Perform advanced diagnostics during emergency situations; must be available to work flexible hours and overtime when necessary
  • Identify the root cause, analyze to identify the themes and strategize on major improvement programs
  • Create/update the operating model, governance model & SOPs for effective operations
  • Partner with business stake holders for effective structures & security and long-term strategy on maintaining the C-I-A around the data
  • Participate in the definition of standards, procedures, best practices and metrics as indicated
  • Apply and use the tools and work methodologies in place
  • Answer user questions and service requests

Key Requirements

  • 7+ years of pertinent experience in Windows systems administration and specifically in DFS & DFS-R
  • Windows Administration expertise
  • File Services (Microsoft DFS - DFS Namespaces & file replication)
  • File server/data migration activities. Hands on Experience in this area including User co-ordination is a must
  • Cloud based file services
  • Storage & backup knowledge. should be able to take quick calls and ask for specific technical help and answer to the other stake holders confidently
  • Networking knowledge. should be able to fix the issues in replication across Datacentres in different countries or cloud
  • Should be able to work US working hours when required.
