Description

Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Site Reliability Engineer for an initial 6 month contract with the potential to extend on a rate of £570-£630/day (outside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will be remote based for the foreseeable future.

Responsibilities:

- Gather and analyse metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding
- Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures
- Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning
- Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts
- Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives
- The role will ultimately be responsible for ensuring the reliability and resilience of the platform and applications that run on the platform and ensuring a durable focus on engineering.
- Maintain an understanding of the current and evolving IT Landscape and identify potential improvements now and longer-term. This will be directed by a strong awareness of digital strategy, new ways of working and emerging technologies.
- Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
- Ensure the measurement of infrastructure service against SLAs how these translate into service level objectives and the service level indicators that will allow us to monitor them.
- Assist with fault resolution and maintain relationships with, manage and support third parties in providing infrastructure services.
- Work with Developers, Testers, architects, DevOps and Sysops to incrementally and continuously improve the entire system

Essential Skills:

- Experience running root cause analysis on large distributed system ensuring that failure is not repeated
- Understanding of software and infrastructure architecture including performance tuning applications, infrastructure and databases;
- Experience scaling system sustainably through automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability, velocity and cost efficiency.
- Proficient in system monitoring, capacity planning, business continuity, system support and failure diagnosis;
- Strong Amazon Web services knowledge minimum of 3 years hands on experience
- Solid and demonstrable understanding of AWS well architected framework;
- In-depth Infrastructure as Code experience for automation and configuration management (specifically Terraform, Ansible, packer and CloudWatch)
- Evangelist for Continuous integration and Continuous Delivery methodologies reducing toil and ensuring maximum change velocity and deployment consistency
- Excellent Linux/Unix system administration skills with a bias towards RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 7 and CentOS;

Desirable Skills:

- Hands on experience in Jira, Confluence,
