Description

Robert Walters has partnered with market leading energy firm Shell to recruit x2 Cloud migration engineers for a 2 - 6 month contract (inside IR35) based in Coventry.

Work you'll do

As an experienced Linux and cloud migration engineer, you will be responsible for assisting the Shell Energy rehost project team in the staging, migration and cutover of Linux hosts. The nature of the role also means that you may also be called upon to work outside of operational hours in order to transition the business into AWS. You may also then be called upon to support day-to-day operations, compliance activities and post-migration requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision Linux Servers in cloud and virtual environments
  • Perform migrations and discoveries of Legacy estate into AWS
  • Ensure smooth transition of rehosted systems and service levels are maintained
  • Tackle technical challenges arising from the estate
  • Provide support to project management team as they steer the migration to completion
  • Provide engineering and systems administration support as it relates to all aspects of server migrations, discoveries and post-migration activities
  • Maintain and adjust monitoring tools

What you'll need to help you make the best of the role:

Essential

  • Minimum 4-6 years' experience working as a Linux Engineer
  • AWS EC2 build, instance specification and administration
  • Experience of CloudEndure migration tools
  • Experience AWS Migration Factory and batch cutovers to AWS
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Well-versed in current and Legacy CentOS and Ubuntu Linux distributions (though experience in other Linux variants will be taken into consideration)
  • Bash Scripting
  • Perl Scripting
  • Patching and updating distributions
  • Knowledge of security policies for Linux
  • General knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP protocol and networking
  • Experience in supporting enterprise-level production environments, both traditional and cloud

Desirable

  • Administering Windows and Linux Bind DNS
  • Knowledge of multiple hypervisors technologies like Xen, Nitro and VMWare
  • Experienced with administering Icinga or Nagios monitoring
  • Building from source code
  • Implementation of and restoration from AWS backup
  • Cloud migration of Windows Servers when called upon
  • Knowledge of operating Sarbanes-Oxley compliance controls
