Description
Site Reliability Engineer - Contract (Outside IR5 - Coventry)
Contract Outside IR35
Negotiable Rate
Robert Walter have patterned with Shell Energy who are looking for one or two contractors to join for a 6 months + contract (Outside ir35) based in Coventry
There are 4-5 monitoring systems in Shell Energy. They have grown organically and are difficult to scale with. The POL acquisition has meant that a better monitoring & alerting infrastructure is necessary. Without that, the ability to proactively monitor our applications and microservices (for example 106+ telco) is very limited. Prometheus (prometheus.io) has been chosen by the Engineering and TechOps subject matter experts after a discovery phase themed around the Scalability and Resilience topic.
Key Objectives
- Setup Prometheus in a PoC environment (Resource 1)
- Assess the monitoring requirements (Resource 2)
- Configure it with relevant targets to monitor (Resource 1 and 2)
- Engage with Shell Energy development and technical support teams where relevant to finalise the applications to monitor
- Test and deploy the monitoring and alerting system (Resource 1 and 2)
- Assist in the load testing of the various microservices that would require monitoring so as to identify expected load limits (Resource 2)
- Create relevant training and onboarding material for other Shell Energy staff to cross train (Resource 2)
- Provide support in production during the Fern migration phase (Resource 1)
The resource(s) required are expected to know Prometheus and help deploy it in the client's environment and set up the targets so that the underlying applications can be suitably monitored and alerted upon.
