World Class Defence Organisation based in Bristol is currently looking to recruit a Linux System Administrator on an initial 6 month contract.

Contract Duration: 6 months initially and then ongoing

Hourly Rate: The Company are offering excellent rates

Security Information: Please Note you must be eligible for SC Security Clearance (unfortunately due to security restrictions for this role, the candidate will need to be a British National with no dual nationality and must have resided in the UK for at least 4 of the past 5 years).

Linux System Administrator Job Description:

We are currently in search of an experienced Linux System Administrator with expertise in hardening networked desktop systems using NCSC/CIS (or similar) security guidance. Bash Scripting and the ability to work in Python is essential. It would be highly desirable for the candidate to have some experience writing Java SE applications, as they will assist with integrating a Java application with OS-level functions.

We are looking for someone who is a self-starter able to hit the ground running immediately with minimal support. Ideally the applicant will be RHCE certified or similar. However, the target platform will be Ubuntu.

Responsibilities:

Produce a Linux configuration to lockdown a desktop system, providing protection from the user and network vulnerabilities. This must meet the INFOSEC requirements placed on the project. There is potential for working with various stakeholders to clarify requirements and capabilities.
Modify the OS configuration as required to integrate with a Mission Planning Application.
Write python scripts to control OS functions such as networking configuration, Firewall rules, udev rules, and other low level OS functionality.
Deployment onto representative target hardware and a virtualised environment.
Support the development team with Linux and system administration related queries.
Produce technical documentation in accordance with MBDA's Engineering & Quality processes.
Application proving activities necessary for project delivery. This will include the creation of unit tests to demonstrate that Python and Bash scripts meet their requirements.
Undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with relevant processes, quality and other requirements, supplying specialist advice and support across projects, other business units and customer as appropriate.
Participate in the entire development life cycle from Architectural specification of the software product and equipment through to the testing and verification of that equipment.

Skillset/experience required:

A Linux System Administrator capable of design, development and proving of an OS security configuration that can meet INFOSEC requirements placed on Mission Planning system.

Suitable skills in the following areas are required:
The ability to communicate with other engineers from different skill areas.
Linux System Administrator (RHCE certified or equivalent level of experience)
Ubuntu OS Configuration (including boot loader, network stack, Firewall, udev, usbguard)
Bash Scripting (using tools such as Awk, Sed, Grep)
Python
Security Configuration experience
Desirable knowledge includes:
Java software development experience
Familiarity with virtualised environments
