Network Security Engineer

Oxford - Fully Remote Initially

£45,000 + Car allowance + benefits

Fantastic new contract opportunity for an experienced Network Security Engineer with a strong background within Networking and Security engineering for this market leading manufacturing and logistics business based in Oxford. The position will be 100% fully remote working initially and a blend of remote and office post pandemic.

As a Network Security Engineer you will be responsible for the continuous monitoring, configuration, and development of the network, security systems and technologies that protect the company's assets. Working with other members of the Security Operation Centre, you will be supporting the ongoing development of the function through the use of automation, threat intelligence, and attack driven defence techniques. You will also be responsible for timely resolution of security incidents, requests and changes, following existing ITIL based processes and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Deployment of FortiNet Firewalls
  • Interpreting customer requirements into change requests
  • Implementing Firewall/network changes
  • Monitoring, management and configuration of Firewalls, networking equipment and security systems
  • Working with internal customers and managed service providers to address security configuration issues
  • Closely working with other members of the Security Operation Centre team to undertake attack driven defence activities; and development of additional security controls within adopted technologies
  • Provide security advice and guidance to other teams within the business
  • Ticket management for incidents, requests and changes

Skills Required:

  • A proven background of working within a similar Network Security Engineer position
  • Previous experience working with Firewalls/NGFWs (FortiNet preferred)
  • Excellent knowledge of network architecture
  • Experience on network L2/L3 Switches
  • Strong knowledge of Switches, Routers, network technologies and protocols including IPSEC, VLANs, VRF, BGP, OSPF, FTP, SFTP, SSH, HTTP, DNS and SMTP
  • Experience working in a confidential environment
  • Excellent analysis skills to monitor and evaluate IT security events
  • Understanding of key industry principles (least privilege and layered defence)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Eye for detail
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent communication skills
