Cyber Security Systems/Big Data Engineer - Initial 6 Month Contract - £650 per day - 'INSIDE' IR35
Reading based - 100% on site - Must have current DV clearance
The Cyber Security Systems/Big Data Engineer is responsible for the technical liaison with the client's teams to assist with the support of and continuous evolution of our clients Cyber Security Platform - to ensure it stays ahead of the relentless innovation of the client's cyber adversaries. They will work alongside both our client and it's customers own staff providing their analytical skills to evolve cyber security use cases and provide indepth technical assistance for the components of the platform. The role will be located at our clients customer premises and requires a current MOD DV clerarance.
The Cyber Security Systems/Big Data Engineer will work to an agile life cycle model to ensure that capabilities are evolved using a structured methodology and are operationally supportable. This will be coupled with a continuous integration methodology to enforce regular testing of capability modules and their integration points against the ever evolving platform ecosystem. It is required that the role holder will have experience with a wide range of technologies covering platform administration, core infrastructure technologies, big data applications and Scripting. A key focus for the team will be ensuring the Cyber Security Platform evolves harmoniously within the client's environment by providing feedback to core engineering teams on ways to enhance capabilities and to assist the client's staff with identifying and integrating new data sources as they become available.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable hands on experience and working knowledge of the Hadoop ecosystem including but not limited to some of the following: HDFS administration tools and techniques - Spark, Flume, Nifi,Impala/Hive, HBase
- Experience doing data analyses, using SQL on large (multi-million rows) unstructured datasets.
- Experience with Elasticsearch and Kibana for low latency data analysis and visualisation.
- Basic knowledge of a wide range of cyber security topics.
- Experience of using Scripting languages (Bash, Powershell, Python) to automate various processes.
- Comfortable working with Linux based operating systems.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with issue management and change management systems, preferably the Atlassian toolset.
- Experience with configuration managements tools, preferably Ansible.
- Experience administering virtual machines (Windows and Linux).
- Experience with code performance, profiling and optimisation eg data load optimisation and query optimisation.
- Experience developing software using Agile delivery methodologies.
- A thorough understanding of IT software build and release management.
- A thorough understanding of unit and integration testing.
