Security Operations Team Leader

Duration: 3 months initially

Location: Remote

Start: ASAP

Rate: £550 per day

IR35 Status: Inside

A Security Operations Team Leader is required to supervise the Client's day-to-day cyber security activities, performing initial security investigations (who and what affected,what is the risk, next steps) and contribute to developing improvements to a range of key IT security services, processes and technologies. This includes Endpoint Detection and Response, email security, authentication,vulnerability management and Security Information & Event Management solutions. The role involves supporting and advising academics and staff (including IT) as well as students on cyber security matters.

Managing activities and professional development for a small and established team of security analysts will be essential to support the Client's ambitious Information & Cyber Security and Digital Strategies. The Security Operations Team Lead will report to the Senior Manager (Security) and manage the day-to-day work of a team of three cyber security senior analysts.

Essential skills/experience required:

Broad IT Knowledge
Specialist expertise in security technologies such as anti-malware, encryption, SIEM, web & email filtering, Firewall and authentication.
Experience performing risk assessments and recommending mitigating controls in the information security space.
Knowledge of the wider security threat landscape and issues.
Experience of effectively line managing a team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.
The ability to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships.
The ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
Experience of planning and delivering projects to achieve desired outcomes in a timely fashion.
High levels of self-motivation, initiative and ability to promote and demonstrate a flexible 'can do' attitude to direct reports.

You may also have:

Knowledge of key UK legislation such as the Data Protection Act and the Computer Misuse Act.
Relevant degree and/or professional recognition and certification of achievement of skills and knowledge.

Knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.

Duties include:

You will work collaboratively to ensure high quality cyber security operations and support for the Client

Manage operational service activities in areas such as anti-malware, encryption, SIEM, Firewalls, and authentication
Support, coach, and mentor team members on security topics, problem solving, and project activities
Manage the day-to-day priorities and deliverables of the team, supervising team members' work as needed to ensure performance expectations are met
Manage welfare and development within the team in line with Client policy, escalating more complex issues as necessary
Make decisions regarding cyber security events and incidents, liaising with the analysts, other security resources, technical specialists, end users, and management, as appropriate
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies, and regulations
Perform initial security investigations
Perform risk assessments and track security risks
Deliver improvements to operational security processes, including relevant documentation
Support and where relevant, undertake work on projects to improve the Client's IT and information security provisions
