Description

This role is a Principal Cloud Application Operations Delivery Lead role, blending Agile Delivery Waterfall methodologies depending on specific project needs, reporting into the Delivery Lead - Cloud Engineering of the Cloud Centre of Excellence within GIO. The role will head up up a multi-disciplined Cloud Platforms delivery team, comprising Office365, Exchange On Line, Sharepoint On-Line, Project On-Line, Yammer, Teams, PowerBI, Azure AD and Microsoft Dynamics and Power Platform technical capability.

  • This role will be responsible for establishing and leading the Cloud Patform Application Operations function within the Cloud Centre of Excellence - essentially covering the Microsoft 365, Sharepoint and Dynamics products.
  • The post holder will manage teams of highly technical resources supporting Cloud Platforms technology, including but not limited to Office365, EOL, SPOL, POL, Yammer and MS Dynamics. The post requires strong leadership skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure; the capability to lead and motivate people across different locations; and proven experience of IT incident management.
  • The post holder will be accountable for the performance of the services delivered by the team and the availability and performance of the Cloud Platforms
  • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the team delivers in line with the SMOM
  • The post holder will be required to develop strong relationships with peers, project managers across the Business as well as with other Delivery Leads and GIO process owners to ensure the smooth running and availability of the services
  • The post-holder will keep up to date with industry trends, and challenge teams and suppliers to ensure that maintenance schedules and the technology landscape reflect industry best practice and best value for the Authority.
  • Leading a team required to provide 24x7 technical response to service affecting Cloud Platforms, the post requires a strong technical understanding of the Cloud platforms to be able to deal with escalations and make judgement calls to support the team.

The Principal Cloud Application Operations Delivery Lead role will hold:

Recognised expertise in Infrastructure and Cloud Platform delivery, including: the technology involved, current developments, the most commonly available products, and the delivery of these services within a technical and business environment.

SME level Knowledge of the O365 platform.

Relevant qualifications in Cloud Platform technologies and architecture (O365/Azure)

Agile Delivery Practitioner qualification and/or relevant experience.

Relevant ICT service delivery qualification such as ITILv3 expert, or equivalent experience and the ability to demonstrate up to date knowledge of a relevant industry framework, eg COBIT, Sigma 6, etc.

What skills are needed?

The Principal Cloud Application Operations Delivery Lead role will have an expert-level and broad knowledge of ICT infrastructure and the end-to-end ITIL Service Management life cycle, with an excellent understanding of how infrastructure services relate to other areas of ICT and how they impact on other business functions. The post holder will be able to describe to senior non-technical stakeholders how the processes underpinning Cloud Platforms delivery work and to enable decision making to be taken based on risks and benefits

Problem management. You can initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required. You can determine the appropriate Remedy and assist with implementation of it as well as preventative measures. (Relevant skill level: working)

Service focus. You can take inputs and establish coherent frameworks that work. (Relevant skill level: working)

Service Management Framework knowledge. You have a Level 3 Service Management Framework qualification and knowledge of life cycle and/or capability elements of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library). (Relevant skill level: working)

Technical specialism. You know how to draft and maintain procedures and documentation. You can set standards for definition, security and integrity of objects and ensure conformance to these standards. (Relevant skill level: practitioner)

Technical understanding. You understand core technical concepts related to the role and can apply them with guidance. (Relevant skill level: working)

Testing. You can manage planning of system and/or acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications. You can provide authoritative advice and guidance on test planning and can identify the process improvements and contribute to definition of best practice. (Relevant skill level: practitioner)

User focus. You know how to collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally. You understand the difference between user needs and the desires of the user. You can champion user research to focus on all users. You can prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so. You can offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to be used. (Relevant skill level: practitioner)
