Outline
Provide support for the LAN infrastructure for 245 sites for the customer based on modern IP technology, using rack mounted COTS equipment. The Installation Design Engineers - LAN is required to produce Installation Designs covering internal & external requirements on the implementation of the project.
Overview
The role of the Installation Design Engineer is to conduct a site survey and input this information into the relevant Design Documentation, the checking of the relevant information (passive BoM) from the Subcontractor to ensure it meets with the IDE design expectations of the passive materials required for the site against their design. Design work will be to current issue of JSP480 and current issue of the Network Design.
It is also the responsibility of the IDE to produce an as fitted pack based on the red line drawings submitted for the site and test results from the sub-contractor.
Key Responsibilities
Specific to this role but not limited to:
Attend Site Survey Meeting
Conduct site survey of existing passive infrastructure and for any additional requirement.
Provide input into the (Design documentation) in accordance with current designs and JSP 480.
Completion of Design/documentation- GFA requirement in accordance with current designs and JSP 480.
Check Design Documentation (Uncosted Passive BoM) to ensure consistent with IDE specified requirements and ensure BoM meets VFM expectations.
Action rejections and re-work requests
Respond to Design Documentation comments.
Attend IDR
Attend FDR
Produce PCD for passive installation.
Assist with Passive Installation
Produce patching schedule and carry out patching.
Produce as Fitted documents
Skills & Experience
Involvement in large scale LAN/WANs along with a proven ability to deliver Network solutions within an IP environment.
A working knowledge of JSP, (or equivalent) BS EN, AMSG719 & CIDA/SCIDA rules
Working knowledge of CAD, Visio & Microsoft Office/Project.
Detailed familiarity of site preparation and construction including: rack installation, electrical wiring & loading, wall penetrations, safety practices, etc.
Knowledge of interior & exterior fibre optic and copper cable wiring, including single-mode, multimode and hybrid fibre optic cable, shielded and unshielded Category 5e or 6 cable
Termination and testing of new and Legacy systems.
Desirable Experience
Experience of working in the Defence arena in a design & installation role is desirable.
