Senior Data Centre Deployment Engineer

Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires a Senior Data Centre Deployment Engineer to be based in their client's office in London, UK. You may be able to work some days remotely until covid abates.

This is a 12-month temporary contract to start on 1st March 2022

Job Purpose

  • Receiving all Data Centre Ops requests, review of requests to ensure technical integrity and creating work tickets for the Data Centre Ops install teams, Checking and confirmation of correct hardware build and make/mode/serial number entry into the asset management tool.
  • Checking and confirmation of correct hardware build with the help of PO and logistics persons.
  • Server pre-build configuration/Database updates. Own and co-ordinate the hardware decommissioning (deco) process/Problem management/resolution
  • Work with other teams for space/power/network cabling requirement and assessment and visual survey of the same and then work on rack/stack/patch with location vendor via ticketing tools.
  • Allocation of all IP and Network details based on the installs requirements or propose the correct details for the requirement and carry on with the installs/deco.
  • Setup the Servers/chassis/telco devices and give IDRAC/ILO management connections to project team
  • Provision of SAN switch ports allocations and patching completion for SAN/NAS/storage related installs/deco
  • Database updates of the network Ip/hostnames into MS DSDB environment or work with team for AQDB updates.
  • Own and coordinate the hardware decommissioning (deco )process with project team/cabling team/for decommission requests and move it to disposal/reuse stores and record the entries into asset management.
  • Problem management and resolution.
  • Work with hardware vendor for break fix or new installs coordination.
  • Asset inventory and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 2 members.
  • Own and co-ordinate various IT equipment installs/decommission/asset inventory
  • Coordinate with client/vendor/other contractors at site to get the job done and report.
  • Handle weekly calls with client and other contractors for the weekly/monthly/yearly forecast of the workflow and plan accordingly.
  • Own the requests and follow-up till the closure while following all the rules set by client.
  • Help the team member if there is any issue.
  • Maintain IT asset inventory and report monthly.
  • Must have data center working knowledge especially Servers/blades/chassis/all telco equipment and knowledge on IT racks/copper/fibre cabling/power/cooling systems in the data center.

Key Requirements

  • At least 4 years relevant experience in data center operations role.
  • Excellent knowledge of windows and linux OS.
  • Good knowledge of basic networking/TCP/IP and VLAN and IP Addressing systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of VLAN/DHCP and DNS and basic network allocation and IP Addressing systems.
  • Knowledge of major hardware used in MS environment (HP/IBM/LENOVO/DELL,CISCO/JUNIPER any other vendor devices)
  • Working knowledge of SAN/NAS
  • Vendor coordination skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as candidate to work with various MS Project teams/vendor/third party contractors
  • ITIL knowledge is preferred and ticketing tools such ServiceNow, aperture Snagit and Remedy tool.
  • Ticket handling/TCM/change management operations and co-ordination.
  • 9AM TO 5PM Monday-Friday only
  • Very rarely will be contacted over the weekend and that too with prior notification if there is any planned works.

  • Coordinate with various other vendors/contractors at site in order to get the job done.
  • Good team member skills and if the candidate has got leadership skills is an added advantage
