Description

The Role

Are you someone who wants to gain a unique overview and insight into the strategic direction of the FCA? With the opportunity to understand and challenge business processes and influence change across the FCA. We are looking for a Data Architect with good Datamodelling experience, extensive knowledge of concept modelling, requirements capture and joining data architecture to business and architecture. You'll be looking for an opportunity to work with senior business stakeholders to understand, scope and interpret strategic business change into data concepts which can then shape the broader data landscape. You will be a key contributor to data procedures practices and policies and make a substantial and valued contribution to the FCA in a role that offers great challenges in the immediate future and as the FCA develops.

You'll need to be comfortable taking a lead role with business stakeholders and technology teams as a data architecture expert, advising and guiding the FCA on the implementation of change and owning the product data models.

Key roles & responsibilities:

  • Lead the data design of solutions for large projects and programs; through expert knowledge translate high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standards
  • Identify and communicate appropriate resource requirements and work breakdown structure based on skills profile and best fit to complete the endto-end solution design, and work with the project manager to ensure that project plans and finances align with the design
  • Building and changing product/application data models in line with business requirements and mapping consistently to a hierarchical set of enterprise models, model standards and reference data standards.
  • Identification and management of downstream impacts to changes in product/application models
  • Contributing to the enterprise data framework and maintaining expertise in industry innovation in data architecture to improve maturity of the organisation's approach to data architecture.
  • Review and quality assure artefacts created by external suppliers and internal teams ensuring the quality of the delivered solution to fulfil business and non-functional data requirements and adhere to strategic vision for the product group, BTS and FCA.
  • Provide architectural and technical expertise to regulatory business stakeholders and BTS product teams throughout the data life cycle.
  • Participate in governance and quality assurance of project design artefacts against the enterprise vision and roadmaps in relation to data through membership of various Technical Design Authorities
  • Communicating, improving and implementing the key principles, methods and models that describe the enterprise's future state in relation to data.
  • Advising and participating in the specification, selection, design, implementation and operation of information security controls to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability and relevant compliance of information systems to security standards
  • Contributing to the enterprise data framework and maintaining expertise in industry innovation in data architecture to improve maturity of the organisation's approach to data architecture.
  • Leading contributions to the relevant communities of practice, providing thought leadership, coaching and mentoring of other employees to build the overall business, technical and Data Architecture capability within BTS

Skills/Criteria Minimum

  • Substantial experience in data architecture and supporting the delivery of large-scale projects through the project life cycle;
  • Extensive experience of designing, building and using enterprise data models as the foundation for a data architecture as well as knowledge of data architecture concepts and Datamodelling techniques;
  • Experience of playing a leading role in the definition and implementation data and information governance strategies to include the principles of data
  • ownership and custodianship within financial services, government or regulatory bodies.

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge of designing, building and using enterprise data models as the foundation for a data architecture;
  • Extensive experience of traditional Datamodelling techniques such as IDEF1x, IE and class modelling using UML using a range of modelling and architecture tools, for example: Erwin data modeller, Avolution ABACUS, ARCHI, Solidatus, Safyr;
  • Experience of designing standards for conceptual models and modelling logical and physical data models, including logical and physical naming conventions, logical to physical model transformation rules, data domains and logical Datamodelling patterns, including the use of supertype/subtype hierarchies, bills of materials, etc.;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present and communicate complex architectures clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Experience of creating data dictionaries and taxonomies and developing best ? practices and governance for dictionary maintenance;
  • Good experience of aligning product/application models to reference models
  • (eg Enterprise Logical Data Models)
  • Knowledge of how application data models are aligned to the roadmap for creating and understanding the as-is view of the systems landscape and developing the to-be view of the systems landscape and a strategy for migration from as-is to the desired to-be state.

Desirable

  • Experience of Salesforce data architecture
  • Experience of Agile data architecture development with multiple, concurrent workstreams and working in DevOps environments
  • Industry standard architecture TOGAF or Zachman certification;
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and data architecture practices in big data technologies;
  • Extensive IT experience, with significant experience in an architectural role;
  • Ability to provide a data authority and governance role through lifetime of
  • project;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including influencing, collaboration, facilitation, negotiation, commercially and politically astute;
  • A clear understanding of how non-functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability and availability are designed, implemented, verified and maintained;
  • Good knowledge of configuration management techniques as applied to data
