We are IT Recruitment Specialists partnered with a prestigious Global Consultancy who require a Infrastructure Engineer for one of their Public Sector Clients based with Newcastle/Manchester/Leeds/Sheffield/Blackpool/London.

Job Description:

  • As an IBM I Infrastructure Operations Engineer you will be responsible for the configuration and support of physical and virtual IT operations solutions and services. You will work in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers making sure services are delivered and used according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) throughout the life cycle.
  • You will act as 2nd/3rd line support for incidents, problems and changes to solutions and services, and will provide specialist technical support and assistance to projects ensuring delivery of requisite non-functional requirements and to continual service improvement.
  • You will work closely with Architects, Site Reliability Engineers, Delivery Managers, and Product Managers, supporting the implementation and operationalisation of OPH hosted products and services.
  • You will provide technical support and assistance to infrastructure and transition projects.
  • Finally, you will help to develop junior team members by coaching and mentoring whilst assisting in the delivery of first-class service, and consistent levels of capability as required by the organisation.
  • The HCS Operations team support 24*7 critical services with a requirement to provide out-of-hours standby on-call support as part of a scheduled rotation. The successful candidate will also be required to work out of hours required to support scheduled change activities.
  • Prioritises and diagnoses incidents. Investigates causes of incidents and seeks resolution. Perform problem analysis, documentation, and root-cause analysis. Perform platform-specific technical tasks including operating system upgrades, installation and configuration of various software packages, and installation of patches and fixes.
  • Conducts ongoing maintenance of infrastructure. Resolve ongoing problems by developing and applying long term solutions. Support continuous improvements to existing systems.
  • Manages, documents and implements changes based on requests for change in accordance with change control procedures. Supports the maintenance of infrastructure support technical documentation.
  • Ensure that major incidents are escalated and communicated to stakeholders detailing the impact on the business. Facilitates recovery, following resolution of incidents.
  • Carry out the provision of complex infrastructure builds/configurations.

Key Skills required:

  • IBM Operating Systems - IBMi
  • Server management and virtualization - IBM HMC, Power VM, IBM I Access, IBM CMC
  • Backup, Recovery & Media - BRMS, Physical/Virtual Tape Libraries
  • Server Infrastructure - IBM POWER8/POWER9 server
  • Management of scheduled and interactive jobs
  • Previous experience of performing similar roles supporting IBM I server environments.
  • Has a deep understanding of the technical concepts required for the role and understands how these fit into the wider technical landscape, specifically in relation to IBM I server and associated technologies.
  • IBM Operating Systems - AIX
  • Automation experience using tools such as Ansible and strong skills in Unix Shell Scripting
  • Experience of using monitoring, security, and management tools
  • Experience of using IT Service Management software platforms such as ServiceNow
