For our client we are looking for a freelancer who will work, with the minimum of supervision, on the Design, package and realisation of a variety of Exterior trim components in order to produce finished detailed CAD designs and drawings.
- CAD design and modelling of Exterior trim in Siemens NX
- Management of created CAD into Teamcenter ensuring all model attributes are completed to AML standards
- Ensure models are compatible with surrounding environment and suitable for Engineering Release and commodities are delivered to cost, quality, performance and timing targets
- Support virtual build phases
- Preparation of detailed drawings to AML drafting standards may be required
- Work under the direction of Project engineer on a day to day basis
- Experience of component design for injection moulding, RRIM, pressings and extrusion, casting processes in various materials is important.
- Experience of lighting is advantageous, but not essential
- Support and/or investigate resolution of build issues during pre-production builds and launch phase.
- Contribute to updates of Best Practice and Engineering Standards manuals
- Knowledge and ability to work in concept phases of a vehicle program and be confident in developing master sections for vehicle hard points
- Present technical detail in cross functional reviews in a clear and appropriate manor
- Lead and co-ordinate a small team of CAD engineers either on site or off shore for larger, more complex assemblies
- Leading the technical delivery of given components and systems
- Potential to progress within Body Commodities team or wider R&D team
Experience/Education:
Essential:
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Experienced NX user
- Minimum of 5 years' experience with Exterior trim or similar commodities.
- Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing processes to create Exterior Trim components eg injection moulding, extrusion, pressings, castings
- Experience of leading component design within cross functional team.
- Supplier interface experience.
- Knowledge of Product Development cycle from concept to launch completion.
- Excellent technical engineering background and a comprehensive knowledge of using calculation and analysis to drive design.
- Knowledge of automotive quality tools and processes such as virtual builds
- Knowledge of automotive development systems eg specification, releasing, concerns, containments, gateways and sign off documentation.
Preferred:
- Mechanical engineering degree

- Premium automotive sector
- Knowledge of DFMEA process
Required Skills:
- Competent in Microsoft Office toolset.
- CAD proficiency, Siemens NX.
- Ability to pass the driving medical for a Level 3 permit
