Description

Harvey Nash is pleased to be working with our Education client to recruit a Linux and Storage Systems Engineer on an initial 1 month period. You will join a team with responsibility for the operation, development, maintenance and facility management of the services and systems which use Linux and Unix operating systems, together with the central provision of compute and data storage services for both the University's functions and its research base. This may include particular responsibility for, or specialisation in, specific services or aspects of a service.

Key Skills:

  • Day-to-day operational administration of the large scale Linux-based high-performance computing cluster (~7000 cores).
  • Day-to-day administration of a clustered storage system (10+ PB).
  • Physical hardware deployment (storage arrays, Servers, fibre channel fabric switching, etc.). Engagement and participation in the sections ongoing project workload.
  • Third line support tasks.
  • A possibility of day-to-day administration of OpenStack virtualisation services.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in configuration management platforms (eg, SaltStack, Puppet).
  • Knowledge of networked file systems administration (NFS and/or SAMBA).
  • Experience with management of web-based systems (eg, Apache).
  • Knowledge of public key encryption and transport encryption (SSL, SSH, keys and certificates).
  • Knowledge of Shell Scripting.
  • Experience with data centre working.
  • Knowledge of IBMs GPFS and/or experience of enterprise storage fabrics is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Virtualisation (Openstack & VMWare) is useful but not essential.
  • Experience of high-performance computing systems is useful but not essential.
