Mobile Backhaul is part of the Mobile and Analytics directorate within Technology and is responsible for design, planning and deployment of all Mobile solutions on the commercial network and the Emergency Services Network, including backhaul transmission and IP transport within the Radio Access Networks. Design, planning and deployment activities for Mobile Backhaul are delivered through shared programmes into our shared network environment and through Technology Mobile programmes for unilateral network requirements.
The Mobile Backhaul design team is responsible for all solutions for backhaul transmission, IP transport and security in the Radio Access Networks, delivering traffic in a secure fashion from the cell sites to the core network sites and for remote hosting purposes between core network sites
This role has a significant impact on delivering the Mobile Backhaul roadmap and the subsequent solutions and process to support the network delivery and life cycle
What I'll be doing - your accountabilities
* Design Authority for Mobile Backhaul to technically lead evolution of in-house capabilities and ensure Managed Service Providers and Partners are working to best practice
* Technical design authority, with enduring ownership of one or more components within a technical domain.
This includes:
o management of software and/or hardware roadmaps in life
o Mobile Backhaul roadmap delivery
o leading project focused and ongoing technical engagements with the vendors, influencing feature development as appropriate
o anticipating and planning for end of life issues
* Support the interface to ensure the Backhaul Design Forum delivers designs in line with business requirements and solutions are planned and deployed in line with strategy and designs
* Ensure technical solutions are developed to meet agreed business requirements:
o as encapsulated within a project or similar activity
o validate such solutions in a test environment
o act as the technical lead in the delivery to that project
Skills required for the job
Technical:
* Excellent knowledge of Satellite based telecommunications, DVB-S2, ACM, A-TDMA, MF-TDMA, protocol optimisation and acceleration
* Knowledge of 5G, LTE, LTE-A, and other 3GPP architectures and the relevant transport requirements to support them
* Experience in mobile/fixed/satellite telecommunications industry in the role of a designer with business-critical, high-availability systems and networks
* Experience of managing relationships with suppliers and third-parties, of product/feature selection and of delivering those products into a production environment
Specialism in several of the following:
* Satellite products and services in the UK market
* Satellite link budget, availability and capacity .
* Network Synchronisation
* OSS, Network Management and DCN
* IP technologies TCP, UDP, SCTP, IPSec and PKI
* Routing and LAN switching, routing protocols OSPF, IS-IS, eBGP, iBGP
* IPv4 and IPv6 addressing
* IP/MPLS technologies, RSVP and LDP, IPVPNs
* QoS mechanisms
* Network Security
* Designing highly resilient packet networks
General:
* Practical experience in delivering backhaul solutions for the support of rapid network rollout and capacity enablement
* Good communication skills with the ability to broker agreement across teams and presenting & communicating highly technical information to both technical & non-technical personnel
* Knowledge of industry best practice methodologies for analysing, defining and documenting the link between input business requirements and output technical solutions
* Understanding of project management techniques and tools
