Intelligent Resource are recruiting for a security cleared Linux/Unix Systems Administrator for an initial 6 month contract to be based out of Gosport.

Please note this will require working on site 5 days a week for the first few months and then may move to hybrid working dependent on availability of hardware.

The ideal candidate will be security cleared or be willing to under go it.

Job Description: Virtual Unix Team Member Unix/Linux Systems Administrator

Primary Purpose:

To ensure the availability of Production, Development, Disaster/Recovery, Training and any other services provided by the Unix/Linux Servers located at both DBS Centurion Building and Data Centres

Secondary Purpose:

To provide assistance and support to developers, operators and users of all the Virtual Unix Team (VUT) managed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

The principal tasks are:

  • Carried out in accordance with VUT standards and practices as documented in the relevant work instructions
  • To ensure the security of the Servers and services under the control of the VUT
  • To install software packages, upgrades and patch sets to the supported systems
  • To manage the backup processes for the system and user data
  • To monitor the allocation and use of both the system and user filestore
  • To introduce and manage user accounts and remove those no longer required
  • Manage the disc storage on the Servers and the disk arrays
  • To provide technical support to all users
  • To perform routine system administration tasks on the various Unix Servers
  • To write and maintain Shell Scripts on the Unix/Linux based systems
  • Write, maintain, and review QMS procedures and work instructions
  • Perform daily check to ensure that the Unix/Linux systems are up and running, raising calls for any software and hardware faults as and when required
  • Respond to Help Desk calls, escalating problems if required, within agreed time limits
  • Supervise engineers when they are on site working on the Unix/Linux systems
  • To ensure that SSCL/DBS mandatory processes and tasks are completed on time

Essential skills:

  • Working knowledge of AIX and Linux
  • Working knowledge of IBM and Lenovo hardware/virtualisation
  • Working knowledge of IBM storage and management tools for IBM storage

Desirable skills:

  • Working knowledge of Data Protector or other enterprise backup products Knowledge of OCI .
