Senior Buyer

A Senior Buyer with procurement, CIPS, MCIPS and stakeholder management experience is required to work on a twenty month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Cumbria.

This is a twenty month contract working for a leading defence client.

Overview of the Senior Buyer contract role

Our leading defence client are currently recruiting for a Senior Buyer to join the Indirect Procurement team based in Cumbria. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a challenging environment in a team responsible for a wide range of categories, with a key focus on the procurement of Plant and Equipment to support a significant investment programme in the Submarines business.

The Plant and Equipment category includes the procurement of equipment/hardware used in manufacturing operations.

Expenditure applies to purchases of new and refurbishment of existing equipment, typical purchases include the following:
- CNC Machinery, NDT Equipment, Chemical treatment plants, Material Handling, Material bending, cutting, drilling, forming, heating, joining, pressing and welding equipment, 3D Manufacturing.

The value of equipment procured ranges from £10K to multi million. You will possess outstanding communication skills along with a strong ability to influence people including Colleagues, Suppliers and senior stakeholders within the business. You will be enthusiastic and passionate in everything you do. The role requires an extensive broad professional knowledge and understanding of Procurement principles and practices, including an understanding of the impact and implications of decisions made.

Key skills required for the Senior Buyer

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in delivering major capital expenditure projects
  • Category management experience and an awareness of the different types of categories
  • Able to use a variety of ERP Systems (ie: SAP, IFS, MARS)
  • Attained a minimum of CIPS diploma membership or equivalent
  • Experience in developing strategy
  • Extensive stakeholder management experience
  • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Proficient user with Excel - (V Look ups, IF statements, able to manipulate data)

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District.
