Network ECU Project Engineer

Contract - 12 months +

Purpose of the Role:
We now have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Project Engineer, specialising in Network ECUs, to join our Electrical Function Group team based in Woking, Surrey.

Principal Accountabilities:
Provide Technical leadership for all Network ECUs within the electrical function group domain. Reporting to the Function Group Manager, manage all aspects of Network ECU delivery on our future vehicle programmes.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Strong technical project management with proven evidence of decision making and accountability is essential. It is core to the success of our business that these primary roles have the required level of leadership and motivation to succeed;
Previous experience of OEM or tier one network ECU system management utilising all of the key attributes, with a demonstrable record of delivery of the accountabilities;
Proven leadership of design and cross-functional teams;
Good commercial awareness to maintain a focus on cost, profit, quality and risk;
A strong track record of delivering designs to timing, weight and cost targets;
Supplier management, comfortable with understanding and implementing DFM requirements within the project scope;
Electrical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above;
Background in low volume, high performance sports or racing cars preferred;
Documentation of Technical Specifications, DFMEA, DVP, Timing Plans, Minutes and Actions of Meetings;
Management of a small technically focussed team of engineers

Role:
Lead a cross functional team to collectively deliver the whole vehicle specification targets:
Management of Network ECU system level delivery at each project milestone, including concept study and definition, packaging and styling feasibility;
Collaboration with the Lead Designers to identify and specify design activity required, interpret requirements of the Lead Designers, estimate time to complete and construct a work plan that supports the release schedule;
Component and system design and detailing responsibility, from prototype to production;
Check the content of designs for release against the specification, the data integrity of CAD geometry and resolution of digital build concerns prior to sign-off;
Project Management in accordance with the client Development Process;
Management of key suppliers and the supplier relationship for accountable components;
Co-ordination of cross functional teams to ensure component and system level delivery;
Identification of opportunities to reduce complexity, cost and weight;
Maintain and deliver a technology roadmap for all current and future requirements encompassed within the Body Network as part of the function group deliverables.
Communication of progress and critical issues to the Management Team and the Chief Designer;

Support the Function Group Manager as required;

Delivery focused, with a demonstrable track record of on-time delivery;
Self motivated to deliver excellence and perform beyond targets;
Strong communication skills through all mediums, with the ability to organise and chair design reviews and deliver concise explanations of design changes to change management teams;
Good organisational skills and ability to project manage design tasks both internally and with the supplier(s);
An understanding and awareness of appropriate escalation;
The ability to lead, motivate and focus team members and suppliers to meet all program deliverables;
An ability to deliver under pressure with an appetite for measured success;
Must have a flexible approach to working hours, travel requirements and adaptability to changing and multiple priorities;
Working knowledge of current legal standards and directives;
Understanding of the design, weight, cost and quality constraints of a variety of Network ECUs and manufacturing processes;
Advanced problem solving abilities;
Able to liaise with suppliers on all technical issues;
Ability to work as a team player to enhance the project team environment, ensure support to colleagues, and maximize efficiency.
