Job purpose

The Global Category Manager (GCM) provides cross divisional global category leadership to deliver measurable value for my client. The GCM owns the global category strategy for services and activities to support Global Medical Affairs and related sub-categories to leverage my clients scale and position in the market, working cross-divisionally and with local resources in CPOs. The GCM embeds & delivers the category strategy through effective leadership of a team of sub category managers and through engagement with business stakeholders and major, preferred suppliers.

Major accountabilities
  • Accountable for the bottom-up aggregation of all category data across Divisions to inform the top-down target setting process
  • Responsible for reconciling "gaps" between the bottom-up and top-down targets, and identifying initiatives required to close any gaps
  • Accountable for the overall delivery of the category savings targets for all Divisions following the target setting process
  • Accountable for ensuring delivery against the Procurement Balanced Scorecard measures for the category
  • Responsible for developing and managing the category team comprised of direct reports and working with the network of procurement professionals supporting local CPOs to deliver local contracts with approved local third parties
  • Accountable for consolidating supplier, market, category and internal business data and information to inform the Category Strategy
  • Accountable for developing and implementing a cohesive, business-aligned long-term Category Strategy at both the category and sub-category level
  • Accountable for developing and communicating Annual Category Plans for all areas of the category
  • Responsible for the communication of the final Category Strategy and Annual Category Plans to the relevant stakeholders
  • Accountable for ensuring the resources, information and tools are in place for project execution throughout the category, providing project management and implementation support where required
  • Responsible for performing the overall category supplier segmentation and identifying key supplier relationships, as defined in the my clients Supplier Performance and Innovation Framework
  • Responsible for defining and measuring relevant key performance indicators for key suppliers in the category, aligned to the my clients Supplier Performance and Innovation Framework
  • Accountable for the management of strategic category supplier relationships as agreed in the supplier segmentation, coordinated and guided by Supplier Performance and Innovation resources
  • Accountable for leading innovation with strategic category suppliers
  • Accountable for ensuring robust contractual arrangements are in place for the category
  • Accountable for the development of the "Category Playbook" to summarize the strategy, to communicate key contacts and suppliers and to guide the best practice approach to operational buying
  • Accountable for monitoring compliance and adherence to my clients Procurement policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring internal issues are addressed and resolved on a timely manner
  • Member of the clinical sourcing leadership team

Ideal background (State the preferred education and experience level)

Education:

Bachelor's degree required at a minimum, Master's degree preferred; in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification.
