A Senior Buyer with Procurement, Category Management, SAP, Procurement Processes, Stakeholder Management skills/experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Portsmouth.
Our client is currently recruiting for a Senior Buyer to join their team, reporting to the Senior Procurement Manager. The ideal candidate will be managing the procurement of indirect goods and services on behalf of their Customers.
We are looking for someone with outstanding communication skills along with a strong ability to influence people including Colleagues, Suppliers and the Customer.
The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of procurement processes and will possess confident communication & service excellence skills. This is a very varied and interesting role with very complex stakeholder engagement and a really good opportunity for someone to move into a strategic purchasing role.
Overview of the Senior Buyer Contract role
The role requires a good, broad professional knowledge and understanding of Procurement principles and practices, including an understanding of the impact and implications of decisions made.
Main responsibilities will involve:
- Develop relationships with Customers, Stakeholders and Suppliers to ensure that our service offering is maintained/improved
- Work with Customers/Stakeholders to identify optimum sourcing solutions and implement these solutions by utilising the IPS toolsets eg e-sourcing, corporate purchasing cards
- Ensure that procurement strategies and commercial arrangement are robust, and contracts are maintained
- Manage the end to end life cycle of the procurement process ie scope activity, issue request for quote, obtain best and final offer, conclude negotiations, award contract and maintain contracts
- Review/manage the performance/development of key suppliers
- Raise purchase orders on behalf of Customers and address associated queries
- Support other IPS team members to ensure that their duties and objectives are fulfilled
- Actively identify & deliver savings, in support of the IPS Value Proposition
- Provide procurement advice and guidance to other functions
Key skills required for the Senior Buyer
- Procurement experience - not just transactional
- Must have strong customer service
- Category management experience and an awareness of the different types of categories
- Able to use a variety of ERP Systems - SAP, IFS, MARS
- Degree/Equivalent
- CIPS - Desirable
The role is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire - commutable from Southampton, Cowes, Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Guildford, Aldershot, Crawley, Horsham, Brighton, Worthing, Chichester
