Valuation Control - Commodities

A new opportunity has come about to work in a top tier investment Bank based in Canary Wharf on a 6 month rolling contract.

The role is within the Commodities Valuation Control team, primarily responsible for valuation control across a range of commodities products. Candidates will work closely with all other areas of the Finance department, liaising with the trading desk, risk management, operations and Middle Office.

Dealing with complex single and multi-asset commodity solutions to meet the unique demands of a growing number of investors, producers, corporates and other financial institutions, this business continues to enjoy strong growth potential in an exciting and dynamic market space.

As the Business continues to expand we are looking to recruit individuals with strong product backgrounds across various commodities. The successful applicant will have strong technical and analytical skills together with excellent communication skills. The candidate must demonstrate drive and ambition to succeed in a dynamic Business environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Valuation control of one or more products.
  • Participate in in desk level activities, including preparing the daily product specific business level revenues and commentary.
  • Understand the Price Verification process and its impact on the P&L.
  • Reviewing new trades, understanding the structure, associated risks and the P&L generated on them.
  • Working with Accounting Policy to determine appropriate accounting treatment for trades under U.S and U.K GAAP.
  • Taking ownership of the Balance Sheet and ensuring adequate Balance Sheet and P&L controls exist and are monitored daily.
  • Working on ad-hoc projects relating to improvements of system infrastructure. Must be able to work with IT on system enhancements and resolving production issues.
  • Management responsibility, although this may not be in the early stage of the role.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Solid experience of commodities Valuation control
  • Good understanding of Investment Banking
  • Good knowledge of Commodity Products is ideal but experienced valuation/product controllers from other areas will be considered.
  • Ability to interpret financial information.
  • Ability to negotiate and strong people skills.
  • Ability to put knowledge of financial principle into P&L and Profit Attribution analysis.
  • Able to perform effectively within a time pressurised environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent
