Commercial Manager - Lifecycle Management, Commercial Environment, Negotiation Skills, Commercial Background

A Commercial Manager with Lifecycle Management, Commercial Environment, Negotiation Skills, Commercial Background skills/experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Chelmsford.

Overview of the Commercial Manager Contract role

  • To lead the business contracting and engagement activities, ensuring the successful conclusion to customer negotiations.
  • To ensure that proposals to customers are priced, developed and approved in an acceptable manner and to submit the associated offers.
  • To negotiate, agree and support contracts that provide a commercial framework within which our client can deliver discriminating technologies and capabilities to customers whilst minimising risk and maximising shareholder value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a commercial team of 2 in support of the business and its strategy
  • Ensure adherence to operational framework, Life Cycle Management (LCM) and Tailored AI Labs commercial processes
  • Ensure that all nominated line of business commercial aspects are fully supported and excellent levels of service are provided at all times
  • Support and positively contribute to the line of business review meeting
  • Develop and close on key contractual arrangements for nominated line of business
  • Support and contribute to the enhancement of commercial consistency and performance with key AI Labs customers
  • Provide suggestions for improvements to AI Labs'' bid process and support in the implementation of such changes where required
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships at a contractual level
  • Support the processes for change required to make the commercial function more effective and efficient
  • Ensure commercial decisions take into account AI Labs' IP strategy in regards protection and exploitation
  • Work with Head of Commercial to champion and support cross line of business working within the commercial team.
  • Development of the commercial team's capabilities both individually and collectively in support of the AI Labs commercial strategy
  • Work with the Head of Commercial to develop AI Labs' commercial capabilities, including broad staff training and awareness
  • Champion to the team the importance of the establishment and building of relationships within our client's network
  • Support Head of Commercial on ad-hoc strategic projects as required

Key skills required for the Commercial Manager

  • Strong commercial background with experience in a technology development environment
  • In depth knowledge, understanding and experience of a broad range of complex commercial terms, contracts and agreements with MoD and Government customers.
  • Experience in building excellent relationships with and negotiating with customer counterparts at an equivalent or and senior level.
  • Experience of supporting continuous improvement and innovation within a commercial environment
  • Experience of independently making commercial decisions
  • Experience of people management and managing organisational change
  • Experience of developing and implementing continuous improvement and innovation within a commercial environment

The role is based in Chelmsford, Essex - commutable from Colchester, Braintree, Witham, Great Dunmow, Bishop's Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Harlow, Epping, Loughton, Brentwood, Basildon and Southend-on-Sea with excellent access from London.
