Backup Engineer - NetApp & NetbackupGloucestershire
Backup Engineer urgently required by industry leading business, within the Gloucestershire region. The successful candidate will provide support to both external and internal customers, covering areas such as backup services for Microsoft, VMware and Linux nvironments. You will primarily be using Backup Exec, however with some customers will use other backup software as well.
The day rate will be paying from £300 to £400 (dependant on experience) - Contract length of 6 Months.
EXPERIENCE
- Expert knowledge of Symantec Backup Exec 2012 and 2014 (Symantec certification highly desirable).
- Knowledge of Symantec NetBackup.
- Extensive experience of Windows Server backup and restore techniques.
- Extensive experience of Microsoft Exchange and SQL backup and restore.
- Experience of Linux (preferably Red Hat or CentOS) backup and restore.
- Experience of VMware vSphere backup and restore.
- Experience using other backup products (DoubleTake Backup, vSphere Data Protection, Tivoli Storage Manager) (Desirable).
- Storage Area Network administration and support (preferably NetApp) (Desirable).
- Experience of a Service Desk or remote customer support role with knowledge of ITIL methodologies (Desirable).
- Windows scripting experience (PowerShell, BEMCLI) (Desirable).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installation of backup server and agent software.
- Backup server and agent upgrades.
- Management and maintenance of backup servers.
- Configuration, management and maintenance of storage devices used by backup servers (tape libraries, drives, SAN, NAS and DAS).
- Defining media management policies and procedures (automation where possible).
- Working with customer to define backup policies.
- Configuration of backups based on the defined policies.
- Performing restores and regular restore tests.
- Performing full server (bare-metal) restore tests.
- Creating documentation for backup configuration and restore process.
- Troubleshooting and resolving backup failures.
- Defining and configuring backup monitoring (automation where possible).
- Defining and configuring backup reporting.
- Providing training for Service desk and Operations teams.
Undertake any other projects as defined by the Wintel Team Leader.
