Description

Reality Check Games are seeking a writer to join their ranks for a large-scale visual novel project. Said writer will join the two writers that we have on staff, and will assist in both making creative decisions about the project as well as be responsible for helping us create the final script. We are also specifically seeking a female candidate, as many of our characters are female and our writing staff is, as the moment, exclusively male. We want to diversify and make sure that we're positioned as well as possible to make the project as good a work as possible.

The work in question spans numerous genres and themes -- the fact that it does so is, in fact, a major plot point. While we can't discuss the plot in this post for obvious reasons, our objective is to craft a narrative that helps our players and ourselves self-reflect. We believe that the Visual Novel genre can be much, much more than the dating sims that it is currently known for, and aim to prove it with our content. Any applicants will need to be both versatile and introspective -- our work is a lesson as much as it is a story. A strong grasp on writing internal dialogue is also a prerequisite due to the plot's structure.

In terms of financial recompense, we are running on a tight budget at the moment. Our plan is to finish the first leg of the project and publish it along with a Kickstarter campaign to secure funds to complete the project as we envision it. That is the future, however, and we cannot offer anything north of ~$500 at the moment. Our director is self-funding the entire project, and the bulk of the financial resources are devoted to obtaining high-quality art.

Interested applicants should apply at the email address below with a short introduction and a portfolio of works. While we are working on a visual novel, it isn't a eroge and we won't appreciate submissions that are overly sexual in nature, nor do we appreciate fan fiction that isn't exceptionally high quality. Any applicants that catch our attention will be asked to perform a writing test after we've filled them in on the details of the plot. We would then choose the final applicant after that point.

Payments would be via PayPal, and come in parts as work on the project progresses. The writer would be expected to sign a contract with the organization before any payments are offered, in order to ensure that our investment is a safe one. The contract would be non-binding but is necessary in order to ensure that pay on our end is met with results -- we have had negative experiences in the past with non-contracted work.

If you have any inquiries, feel free to direct them to the email address below. We appreciate what time any potential applicants decide to devote to the application process, and look forward to working with one of you!
