Description
The Boston Book Festival is seeking a freelance writer for a short-term contract between March and August 2017, to write and/or edit bios for approximately two hundred authors and other presenters to appear at BBF 2017. These bios will appear on our website (www.bostonbookfest.org) and in our printed program guide.More specifically:
- For each presenter, we need a standard (approximately 250 words) and short (50-75 words) bio. Standard bios also include two to three links to relevant websites about the author or his/her work.
- Each bio should be succinct, informative, and vigilantly fact-checked. Bios should conform to Chicago Manual and our house style. BBF staff will perform a final edit for style and length prior to publication online and in print.
- For some presenters, rather than producing a bio from scratch, you will be asked to edit, revise, or update author-submitted bios or those on file from prior BBFs. BBF staff will provide guidance on this process.
- Bios will be assigned and tracked via a Google spreadsheet and submitted via the Google spreadsheet and the online platform Sched. BBF staff will provide guidance on both these systems.
- Assignment will start in late March 2017 and potentially extend through August 2017, with bios assigned as presenters are confirmed and due on a rolling basis. More specific deadlines will be negotiated between contractor and BBF staff, but we expect the bulk of the contract work will come due in May, June, and July 2017.
Compensation: $2500 flat fee, paid on completion of the contract period. Local (Boston-area) candidates preferred, although the contractor can work remotely.
Interested candidates should send a resume or list of prior writing/editing projects, along with a writing sample that consists of a "standard" and "short" bio for a living author of your choice, per the guidelines outlined above.
