Description

HIU Engineer - Pipeline/Plumber

6 months

East London

East London - Home based

This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK's market leaders in district heating, and to have all the freedom and autonomy you need to shape its future. Community Energy has been established for seven years, and growing rapidly over the last four. But then, when you consider the value district heating creates for developers, businesses and residents - from sustainability and reliability to fair pricing and reduced carbon emissions - that growth is perhaps not surprising. The industry is already very well established in international markets, and at my utilities company, they're at the forefront of the exciting developments that are happening here in the UK.

Right now, we're looking for a Duty Engineer to join us to primarily cover the area of East London. You'll be fixing energy centre (heat and electric generating sites), commercial customer (remote plant rooms) or domestic customer (heat interface units) issues with hands-on planning, coordination and completion of a range of maintenance activities to resolve mechanical, electrical and control issues. Your aim will be to optimise the day-to-day operational performance of the District Heating schemes, so you'll need to enhance the performance of our assets, identify issues and improvement areas to reduce unplanned unavailability, and ensure that all major costs are identified early in the process to support business planning.

This is a very customer-facing role so your communication and relationship management skills will be every bit as important as your technical abilities here - you're someone who knows how to put a customer's mind at rest. Because you'll be going into a range of organisations, CRB clearance is vital. Finally, you should be flexible, responsive, and happy to work out-of-hours as part of a rota and just as comfortable in a team setting as you are working on your own initiative.

This is a huge growth area for us, which means excellent career opportunities for you - our aim is that our Community Energy business will be serving 10 million homes by 2050. You could help to make that happen.

  • An innovative approach - especially in terms of challenging existing processes to drive efficiency, deliver best practice and improve our operational and commercial performance.
