We are looking for one "Ruby on Rails" developer to start in May 2017 a 4 months contract (initial, extensions likely) for an internat.Org'-client in Rome.

Our client is an international organisation and a great reference in any CV! English speaking environment. Our client has a growing portfolio of web applications leveraging Ruby/Rails and other web technologies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizational context

The Information Technology Division (ICT) is responsible for providing information technology solutions and services to support the operations of our client and to ensure that, in fighting rural poverty, our client makes the most effective use of Information and Communications Technology tools and services.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the ICT Solutions Coordinator, ICT, and the project manager, the consultant is responsible for Ruby on Rails application development, supporting business objectives while providing expertise in software development life cycle phases from design to testing.

The consultant work as part of team supervising other developers and will design and implement elements of a solution for the ORMS project (ORMS = Operational Results Management System):

  • Analyse requirements
  • Supervision module
  • Integration with existing Ruby on Rails applications, Oracle PeopleSoft and BI, Sharepoint
  • Data export
  • Graphic design
  • Incorporate design assets into the application

Experience: The consultant must have minimum 6 years enterprise development experience, of which 2 years of experience will be with the Ruby on Rails Development Framework using Behaviour/Test Driven Development methodology. The consultant must have built APIs for Ruby on Rails applications. Participation in open source projects is desirable.

Professional requirements

Qualification and experience

  • University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline with at least five years of professional work experience in Oracle Database, ODI and OBIEE.
  • Experience of both designing and executing technical solutions from business requirements.
  • Ability to document technical projects.

Technical Requirements:

  • Good knowledge of enterprise patterns, Object Oriented Design patterns and programming techniques
  • Knowledge of major Agile Project Management techniques (Scrums, XP, etc.)
  • Experience in reading and writing main UML diagrams
  • Knowledge of GIT versioning systems
  • Knowledge of the most used Web development technologies (CSS, Ajax, JavaScript frameworks like EmberJS)

Proven track record in the following technologies:

  • Databases: CouchDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle 10g, MS SQL Server
  • Operating Systems: Mac OSX, Linux, Windows

Required competencies

  • Performer - you demonstrate success in the design, implementation and quality control of building large applications; and are able to develop clear and concise proposals for system implementation

Languages

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.

Duty station: Rome

Period of assignment: Starting in May 2017 for a duration of 4 months (with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability)
