Software Integration and Support Engineer - Netcool Software Integration and Support Engineer - Service AssuranceNETCOOL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCEJob PurposeThe position is for an integration and support engineer who will be involved in integration, customisations, support and testing of third party OSS applications. The role will be involved in a number of large-scale client deployments, the engineer’s relevant background would involve experience with large enterprise service assurance applications such as Netcool, Proviso, and HP Openview etc…The integration aspect of the role will cover installation, configuration and customisation of the OSS components in development, pre-production and live environments.The support aspect of the role will involve 3rd line OSS support and troubleshooting across all applications and all environments. The engineer will have problem solving skills, be a highly effective communicator and will be able to work within a challenging and sometimes pressurized environment. Furthermore, the engineer will have worked in an integration and support role/environment in the past, and must have a proven track-record delivering results, within strict timescales. Day-to-day duties* Involved in the service assurance integration activities* 3rd line support, dealing with service assurance problem reports raised by the client within our trouble ticketing system, * updating trouble ticketing system with the status of various problems* tracing application level problems from within database tables, UNIX log files, browsing through shell scripts and PL/SQL code, and providing fixes or commenting on technical solutions to problems where possible* creating and running ad-hoc UNIX scripts when required* answering RFIs regarding application features, algorithms, functionality, etc ... * implementing configuration changes to the enterprise applications (i.e. Being a responsible and competent administrator of all major applications)* being pro-active from a performance tuning, application data integrity and technical environment point of view* communicating daily with developers, testers, managers, client and operations for support, advise, to provide status, etc ...Essential general skills * Experience of software development life cycle* Technical problem solving (i.e. debugging and tracing of enterprise level applications)* Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting work loads in a (potentially) pressurized environment* Ability to study and learn independently and work with little supervision * Self motivated good verbal skills and a willingness to deal with multiple parties (testers, developers, engineers, clients, managers) ability and willingness to fully document and explain solutions* Understanding of clustering in a production environment, and how backups and failovers workEssential technical skills* Good Experience of either:* Netcool suite of products (OMNIbus, Reporter, Webtop, etc..) * Telecoms network knowledge - MPLS, xDSL, SDH, PDH, etc…* Preparation for test documentation (test scripts, test plans, defect reports, test summary reports) test planning, development of automated test scripts and test execution and recording. * Solid UNIX and or fault management / monitoring systems support or implementation background.* Working knowledge of UNIX/Solaris security, including security hardening.
