Reports to - Lead Automation Engineer
Our client works within the renewable energy sector specialising in the design, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of turbines for marine renewable energy projects.
The role of the Automation Engineer is to help support the development of a control strategy for our client's current project; which includes working on the existing software design and evolving it to a future design based on experience, customer demand and product enhancements.
It is an opportunity to get involved with innovative technology and play a pivotal role in the redesign & development of a product looking to be released on a commercial scale by Q3 of 2018.
Qualifications
Essential

• 3-5 years' experience in an automation role.
• Degree qualified.
• Experience with automation systems - key focus on PLC software development.
• Power Generation/Power Conversion.

Desirable

• Be conversant in IEC-61131 development environments.
• Experience with Phoenix Contact control systems.
• Understanding of renewable energy systems.

Principal Responsibilities
The Automation Engineer will work in a small team environment to ensure that a life cycle approach is taken to the future software development.

Key focus areas will be:

• Assist with the development of functional design specification template(s).
• Assist with capturing the As-Is configuration of installed base into functional specifications.
• PLC software development.
• Risk based testing.
• Be a good communicator.
• Work with the team of automation engineers to ensure timely, quality, software delivery.

This position requires interest in power systems development in a renewable energy context and the ability and desire to learn new skills.
The person will be involved in the development of project documents including functional requirements, control philosophies and software design and test specifications.
