At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world's leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead CAD Engineer to be based in Woking.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role:

The Lead CAD Engineer will provide technical leadership to the other CAD designers and be focal point for CAD task allocation. The position is responsible for resource plans in line with customers' ETRS release process and representing the Function Group in design reviews and meetings.

Area of Responsibility

Must have excellent experience of electrical packaging and be able to demonstrate the ability to design the complete vehicle electrical system, including key hardware, brackets, plastic trays and grommets as appropriate.

Role Dimensions:

  • Reporting to Manager or Principal Engineer.
  • Packaging and design responsibility of the complete electrical system including sensors, speakers, Switches, electrical modules and displays.
  • Components to be packaged as specified in the customer's Tech Spec and/or by interaction with the supplier to ensure acceptable function of the component in considerations of the surrounding vehicle geometry.
  • Undertaking initial studies and concepts and developing into a productionised design in line the material, fixation and G,D & T McLaren standards.
  • Attendance and input at design reviews and cooperation with other departments to enable the best, lightest and functionally successful solution in accordance with the required clearance to other parts as specified by McLaren and component suppliers.
  • Responsible for CAD task/work allocation in line with the company release processes and standards.
  • Generate program timing plans to meet all of the function group's requirements.
  • Required to check all CAD releases in line with the company standards and GD & T tolerance.
  • Responsible for the integration of new technologies required to support the business expansion. Including training requirements.
  • DVP/Clash analysis.
  • BCR (Build change request) Answer shop floor/build issues.
  • BDR (Build deviation request)
  • ECR (Engineering change request)

Knowledge/Experience

Principal Accountabilities:

Packaging of control units, sensors, actuators and other electrical peripherals relating the following systems:

  • Body and door control
  • Active restraints
  • Infotainment system including sound amplifier, speaker system, cameras and antennae and all displays
  • Tyre pressure monitoring
  • Parking distance control
  • Interior controls (switch gear)
  • Bracket, grommet and fixing scheme designs

Favoured but not essential

  • Harnesses and Electrical distribution- Experience of harness routing design.
  • Experienced with the design of plastic parts.
