Description

A Linux Systems Administrator with expertise in Hadoop and/or IBM BigInsights is required to join a highly regarded Consulting Company on an initial 3 month contract based in Dublin (likely to extend to 6 months).

Please note that this role involves being part of the on-call rota.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support IBM BigInsights Big Data platform on a day-to-day basis including BigInsights ecosystem BigSQL, Spark, Zookeeper, etc.
  • Manage availability, capacity, performance, customer requests and issues
  • Troubleshoot and directly resolve issues or liaise with vendor for escalation and resolution
  • Support and execute BigInsights installation, configuration, minor and major upgrades
  • Work side by side with the customers to solve their unique problems across the complete infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product and technical teams, to get the right solution delivered and drive feature innovation gathered from customer input
  • Leverage previous experiences, share best practices and create innovative solutions to push user adoption and maximize the value of BigInsights
  • Development and maintenance of operational documentation and specifications on system builds and SOPs.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Ideally 5+ years experience in Hadoop administration.
  • Experienced in IBM BigInsights administration or Hortonworks Hadoop administration
  • It would be desirable to have experience in Cloudera Hadoop
  • Experience in the above technologies in installation, configuration, upgrades, day to day administration and support, problem determination
  • Working knowledge or recent experience with Scripting languages such as ansible and bash, as well as databases and analytical tools
  • Highly proficient with Linux operating systems
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Sound reasoning ability together with strong problem solving skills and ability to know when to escalate a problem before it becomes critical
  • Ability to quickly explore, examine and understand complex problems and how it relates to the customers business
  • Demonstrates a positive can do attitude and is regarded highly by others
  • Ability to stop, collaborate and listen with technical and non-technical consumers from IT administrators to executive level stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and self-educating, yet willing and able to work collaboratively with both customers and fellow team members
  • Well organized with a good sense of urgency, able to set; communicate; and meet aggressive deadlines with competing priorities
  • Demonstrable understanding of common enterprise applications (especially in the areas of security and finance)

Please note that you must be able to support changes and maintenance outside of standard business hours and as part of the role you will be included in the on-call rota.
