GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs all types of tree maintenance work as required; performs work in connection with the operation of one or more types of heavy motor equipment; performs manual tasks in connection with related operations; does related work as required.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Performs all types of tree maintenance work as required; operates a variety of equipment including loader, winch truck, log truck, chipper, tractor, and snow and ice equipment.
Must be available to work overtime during forestry emergency situations or after storm damage;
Performs tree maintenance including stump grinding, trimming, tree removal;
Operates chain saw and other forestry equipment;
Supervision will be exercised over other crew members;
Prepares and completes simple work reports;
Ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures;
Performs or assists in performing more difficult or skilled trade jobs as required;
Helps to train subordinates;
Performs related tasks as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have at least five (5) years experience in Forestry and a thorough knowledge of heavy equipment; tree maintenance procedures including removal, stump grinding, trimming, knots, roping and rigging, etc. Some knowledge of repair of heavy equipment; skill in operation of heavy multi-purpose equipment under all types of weather conditions. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; be dependable; have a good work record; be available for overtime during storm or emergency situations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a Certified Arborist with a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement and good driving record. Must obtain Line Clearance Certification within 30-days of hire and Pesticide Applicator's license for ornamental plant and shade tree pest control within one (1) year of hire.Subject to pre- and post-employment drug and alcohol testing.
