Environmental Specialist (SHE)

An Environmental Specialist with Infrastructure experience is required to work on a six-month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Rochester.

This is a 6-month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Environmental Specialist contract role

As an Environmental Specialist - SHE you will support the implementation of the environmental management system as part of the wider SHE management system, providing advice and guidance on environmental practice and compliance with all appropriate legislation and standards. Working within a bigger SHE team, the role also requires the individual to provide advice on health and safety.

This role will give you the opportunity to interact with and influence various stakeholders across the business and at all levels.

Key skills required for the Environmental Specialist

  • To assist in the development of SHE Management System to the ISO14001:2015 standard updating and re-invigorating the environmental management systems elements
  • Provide professional and practical environmental advice and guidance to ship repair and building/infrastructure projects and facilities management.
  • Undertake environmental system and compliance based audits, inspections and incident investigation undertaking root cause analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant consents, permits and authorisations is monitored and reported, providing advice where necessary and dealing with the Environment Agency and resident suppliers.
  • Reviewing supplier/contractor bids for appropriate SHE credentials.
  • Working with the internal energy management team to support utility reduction initiatives across the business

Essential:

The role holder will have the following qualifications:

  • Environmental Degree (and equivalent Level 6 diploma)
  • Chartered or Full Membership of IEMA
  • NEBOSH Certificate
  • Internal Auditor Qualification (OHSAS 18001/ISO 14001 Lead Internal Auditor qualification desirable)

Desirable:

  • High-risk industry background
  • Experience of working in a business with external regulators
  • Ideally experience or working in an environmental consultancy
