Solidworks PLM Expert/Mechanical Design Engineer - Solidworks, 3D/2D Pro-Eng, Wildfire 4.0 with Intralink 3.4, AutoCAD version
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership of the Mechanical Design Engineering project plans and updates which they are working on.
- Assume the role of Hardware Design Lead Engineering for specific projects, as requested.
- Supervise and monitor Engineers as necessary and take full technical responsibility for designs produced by supervised engineers.
- Assist in recruitment of staff when required.
- Responsibility for Mechanical Design Engineering to fulfil customer or development requirements, through design, component specification, prototype, testing and full documentation stages.
- Provide technical assistance and advice to Management during contract negotiation phases.
- Produce detailed estimates of design content of proposals and development programmes and assist in the compiling of manufacturing cost estimates.
- To assess the validity of the various design and manufacturing proposals - for maximum cost effectiveness on the particular project.
- To prepare Systems and Engineering specifications to obtain quotations from sub contractors and material suppliers.
- Assist with the preparation of presentations and proposals to customers.
- Liaise with and report to Management on performance to timescales and budgets on specific projects.
- Liaise with, and co-ordinate the work of sub contractors and suppliers where required.
- Liaise with all Production, Purchasing, Engineering, QA and Project staff on Mechanical Engineering matters.
- Travel to customer's site to perform or supervise commissioning and acceptance tests.
- Also to provide after sales technical support on site or supervise such activities as requested.
- Keep updated on latest Engineering techniques, materials, developments, and manufacturing methods.
- Ensure good communications both verbal and written are maintained with Management with regular reporting of problems and resources required to meet planned objectives

- A high standard of engineering, fully cost effective, is employed.
- Documentation is accurate and up to date and meets company requirements.
- A satisfactory relationship is maintained with reporting staff and with other personnel within the company.

KEY REQUIREMENTS (Skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience)
Qualifications
Essential:
- HNC, Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
Desirable:
- Membership of Professional Institution
- PRINCE2 qualified
Skills/Experience/Knowledge
Essential:
- Experience in a senior/supervisory role.
- Experience with 3D/2D Pro-Eng, preferably with experience of Wildfire 4.0 with Intralink version 3.4 data management tools
- AutoCAD version creating 2D drawings
- MS Office
- Designing castings, sheet metalwork, mouldings, electronics packaging solutions and electro-mechanical module design.
- Producing component, wiring and schematic diagram drawings
- Test and evaluation of prototypes
