Description

Proteus Europe is searching for some HPC (High Performance Computing) Specialists for a yearlong contract, possibly longer for one of our prestigious clients.

Our Client :-
You will be working within an important Life Sciences corporation that provides a wide range of pharma services to its customers across the EU.

Your New role :-

High performance computing (HPC) platforms provide the computational backbone which enables the research activities of R and D scientists; its using a variety of platforms, including large-scale Linux clusters and cloud based computing environments. This infrastructure supports computational research activities at all stages of the drug discovery and development process. It requires an expert team to ensure that a broad range of technologies can be deployed to support the analysis of diverse scientific datasets that are typically increasing exponentially in complexity and size.
The successful candidates primary role is to support, maintain and develop existing HPC facilities. This involves working closely with scientists to solve computational problems and to ensure new computational techniques for Drug Discovery and Development can optimally exploit this environment. A further role is to develop and implement a strategy of expanding existing infrastructure to support the growing demand for computational power and storage capacity, including use of latest virtualization and cloud technologies. The role holder will ensure that the existing technology is exploited to its full potential, and will lead the adoption of new technologies.
The ideal candidate will be working closely with the HPC users onsite to understand the business requirements and translate them into the specific solutions. The candidate will be comfortable choosing the appropriate underlying technology, defining the end-to-end architecture, configuring the full stack, managing the data, and ensuring the systems scalability and performance. The ideal candidate will be deeply familiar with handling computationally heavy workloads using in-house HPC environments as well as Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions.

Your Skills and Qualifications :-

Essential Skills :-
- Strong evidence of hands-on roles in supporting Information Systems development in the HPC environment and in the cloud
- In-depth understanding of scientific HPC trends and challenges. Proven experience in designing, deploying and tuning highly scalable, parallel applications.
- Strong evidence of hands-on experience designing, configuring and supporting large-scale computing environments such as Linux clusters, specialized storage and large-scale parallel file systems (e.g. GPFS/Lustre) and cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. AWS, EC2)
- Experience deploying and operating Linux variants in cloud environment, including solutions deployment, configuration and management
- Demonstrated development experience with a variety of programming languages, tools and technologies (Python/Ruby/Perl, Java/C++, AWS, Hadoop)
- Experience of administration of large-scale cluster and server computing and related software (e.g. xCAT, Univa Grid Engine/Slurm, LSF, Puppet, Ganglia, Nagios)

Desirable Skills :-
- Experience in supporting major software packages and toolkits for NGS/computational chemistry/structural biology/computational biology/statistics (for example, BcBio-nextgen, OpenEye, Schrödinger, MATLAB, R, CCP4, Gaussian)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability of drive decisions, influence change and resolve conflicts effectively
- Strong time management and multitasking skills
- Ability to determine pragmatic technical solutions to complex business problems
