Head of Telephony Services

We are recruiting for a Head of Telephony Services to lead the Telephony Product team within Workplace Technology. The role is responsible for the Strategy, Design, Operation and ongoing management of the Telephony Services - including Desk Phones, Fixed Phones, Contact Centres and Conferencing Services.

The Head of Telephony Services will own the Product strategy, vision and roadmap for the Telephony Services. It shall support and design the comprehensive high-level architecture, functionality and implementation of the technologies related to Telephony Services.

The role:
  • Develop technology strategy, future state architecture and a roadmap for Telephony Services technology solutions.
  • Have the ability to provide technical system solutions, determine overall design direction and provide recommendations for complex technical issues.
  • Have demonstrable experience designing and building enterprise scale solutions.
  • Have extensive experience with Unify Telephony systems.
  • Have and maintain a strong understanding of emerging Telephony Services technologies, including 'Cloud Communication' Services.
  • Have a proven track record of leading and delivering large scale Telephony Services transformations.
  • Possess a strong troubleshooting mind-set and support incident resolution, where required, for all high priority issues related to the Telephony Services.
  • Have a strong understanding of endpoint security solutions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors.
  • Have the ability to write and produce technical and operational management documentation, including high-level infrastructure designs, low-level implementation plans and associated operational support documentation.
  • Cost and budget management, including forecasting and tracking.
  • Use recognised methodologies - evidence ITIL, Scrum or other recognised process / Project Management (Agile, Prince2) methodology.


Reporting to the Head of Workplace Technology Products, the role will work closely with and supervise technical architects and other operational specialists to ensure the efficient running of the MoJ's Telephony Services. As necessary the role is likely to be responsible for managing a small operational team. As this is a new team structure, there is an opportunity with this role to help shape processes and functions which govern how operations run in the department.
