My client, an energy trading company based in Sunbury, requires a Technology Associate who will be part of a team which combines innovation, business development, and relationship management. You will participate in initiatives working with highly technical people engaged in leading-edge activities to fulfil DIO's mission of identification and application of emerging digital technologies for the company's group. A high level of drive & influence along with business acumen is required to achieve success.

Digital Innovation Organization (DIO) identifies, proves and seeks value from emerging and disruptive digital innovation for the whole of our client, incubating and advocating digital technologies that could transform existing the company's business, disrupt the energy industry, support the company's strategy or offer potentially new business models. DIO ensures that the company is keeping abreast of and ahead of new digital technologies by developing and nurturing collaborative relationships with start-ups, venture capital firms, governments, research agencies, and academia, developing deep subject matter expertise and advising and educating both internally and externally.

As this is a one-year opportunity, it is expected that you will either return to your existing role or seek out a new opportunity via the TAS process. Please speak to your manager before applying to agree approach. This role follows all terms and conditions of the business.

Key accountabilities

  • Scan the horizon to identify emerging digital technology trends, new products, and solutions potentially relevant to the company.
  • Network across the company to understand business context, direction and key challenges that can be addressed through new digital technology and seek to solve problems with the help of the ecosystem.
  • Build expertise in one or more digital technology disciplines, inform others of the inherent value, promote awareness and advise leadership on the significant contribution of those digital technologies to the company's segment and functional strategies.
  • Collaborate with other DIO team members to deliver proof of concept projects, first implementations and help prepare the organisation for further technology adoption.
  • Recognize where POC's, trials, or other projects are not ready and build arguments where sufficient value will not be realized, or priorities change.
  • From time to time, engage in a variety of special projects, including the design and implementation of innovation processes or by designing and delivering high-quality symposia and other events with leading technology providers.

Essential Education

  • Minimum of a bachelor's Degree in IT, sciences, mathematics or related equivalent.

Essential experience and job requirements

  • Awareness of emerging technologies and their potential uses.
  • Core IT or technical seasoning for the assessment of technologies
  • Ability to rapidly grasp new concepts, achieve a high-level familiarity with new technologies and sense their application; ability to think at the very forefront
  • Aptitude to translate ideas and concepts into business opportunities and successful technology adoption
  • Show fluidity, speed, initiative in unstructured contexts.
  • Effective presentation and persuasion skills
  • Capability to provide technical clarity and business direction to executive management, programs, and projects
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive and curiosity; persistence in following up opportunities
  • Problem solving skills to meet demanding challenges that don't readily lend themselves to traditional IT solutions.
  • Project management skills, including anticipation and surmounting of technical, vendor, organizational and other challenges.
  • Teamwork skills and willingness to actively help others.

  • Experience in the IT industry, including in an IT project oversight capacity
