Outline of duties:

Specific Responsibilities

As a heavy vehicle maintenance technician you will report to the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader undertaking repair, routine and preventative maintenance activities to ensure that the trucks and ancillary equipment are maintained to The Department of Transport standards. You will also have the opportunity to work on our specialised Range vehicles including Chieftain, M110 and Lance Carriers. This role could also require occasional working from alternative UK QinetiQ sites.

Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities Required

  • Experience in the repair of heavy duty diesel vehicles - including plant
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective and productive working relationships.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of auto electrics.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours to meet project requirements.

Challenges

  • Sustain minimum equipment downtime.
  • Identify cost improvement strategies.
  • Repair and maintenance of older specialised vehicles.
  • Periodically working outdoors in challenging conditions for fitting and maintenance activities

Experience & Knowledge:

Key Accountabilities

  • Repair, servicing and maintenance of vehicles including heavy duty diesel vehicles, tracked vehicles and plant
  • To support team members with other tasks when necessary
  • To help create and maintain a safe working environment including a high standard of housekeeping is maintained
  • Complete and/or update risk assessment associated with the activities within the role
  • Keep up-to-date electronic records for asset management and maintenance schedules
  • To contribute in continuous improvement activities
  • To carry out any other task where reasonable and relevant either at the Shoeburyness site or other UK sites

Essential Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship - Vehicle maintenance.
  • Equivalent experience or military training
  • Class 1 or 2 LGV Drivers licence

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant trade certificates and qualifications (heavy vehicle mechanic qualifications preferred).
  • Experience of tracked vehicle maintenance.
