Description

Hi and thanks for looking

I run a specialist consultancy firm which is just coming out of its "start up" phase. I need at least one and maybe two recruitment consultants to really help me grow the business.

I am looking for the following - I need all of these to be clearly shown on your resume/cover letter in order that we can move to interview

1. You must be comfortable working for a small firm just starting out and trying to do something different

2. You must have a sizeable black book of contractors operating via limited companies who you can call on to discuss our special joint venture offer (more details once I shortlist) - this list needs to comprise contractors with whom you have a working relationship. No point if it just a list of names, email addresses and phone numbers. I can get that myself

3. You must have a portfolio of clients who would be willing to move across with you to my company. I am not expecting placements by the end of the first day but again, I'm not just looking for a list from Linked In. Again, I can do that myself. These need to be clients with whom you have a good working relationship and with whom you have made placements in the last year. I don't expect to put you in harms way though - I'm not asking you to steal information from you current employer. Therefore, you are most likely to have been working independently or "renting a chair" somewhere

4. You must be flexible in your approach. This is not a fully formed business and you will not be expected to hit pointless targets for "numbers of phone calls made" or "number of CV generated". You will help me to devise workable targets against things that matter. There will be lots of decisions to take and discussions to be had. I am not prescriptive in my approach. I want you to bring something to the role more than just an ability to sell

5. You will need to be comfortable populating and managing your own CRM (we can discuss tools) and handling your own resourcing (initially) - I have memberships of the usual boards and am just taking on Source Breaker to make sourcing simpler. I am happy to discuss other avenues of approach with you

6. You must understand contractors, their motivations and desires. We are trying to do something to improve the lot of contractors rather than viewing them solely as a means of generating profit

7. I am not a micro-manager - you need to be comfortable setting your agenda and being a grown up. We all want to make money and I need people who know how and are comfortable getting on with it, whilst also being free to discuss ideas and propose new ways of doing things

8. You need to be comfortable talking to rooms of people at events. This is not an everyday occurrence but will be required from time to time

9. You need to be a decent human being. I don't do politics and I don't want my company turned into a toxic environment. I want people who genuinely feel there is a better way of working where we like what we do and who we work with. Happy to discuss further of course

What I am willing to offer in return;

1. An interesting role in which you can have real input into the way we do things

2. A decent salary and commission structure - to be discussed but I want you to propose a commission structure to me - what would work best to incentivise you whilst delivering the kind of profit that is worth having? The basic salary will be somewhere between £20,000 and £40,000 per annum depending on what you bring to the organisation

3. Cars. We can discuss the best way of getting you what you want to drive

4. The opportunity to build a team. I expect this to grow and therefore I expect to need additional resources which you will help to hire and will then manage

5. Other incentives - we can discuss what works for you best and go from there

6. A relaxed but focussed environment with the flexibility not to have to come to an office everyday. I only hire grown ups so I expect you to know what you need to do and to do it

7. Great support - both from me as the MD but also from my support team who handle things like marketing, invoicing and (increasingly) admin

8. The support to do something different. I don't want to just be another "me too" agency (although we have to be that some of the time) - I want to bid for and win projects too and any experience you have in that field will be well received

I know this is not the usual kind of ad for a recruitment person and I know that it won't appeal to everybody. This is good. If what you've just read makes you feel excited, then we should probably talk. If you are more worried about your title, we should probably not.

If you are excited, then let me know and we can work out whether we want to meet up and discuss things more fully.

I look forward to hearing from you.
