SQL DBA, Administrator, Powershell, API

My client is a leading financial organistation who are looking for a SQL DBA to joing their growing team on a long-term contract.

What will you be doing?

As part of a SCRUM team you are responsible for designing and building the Enterprise SQL Server environment. Products supported within that environment include SQL Server database engine, SSRS, SSAS and SSIS as well as support of other associated SQL products like MDS, DQS and similar.

You are to develop a solution to be compliant with regulatory requirements, take care of embedding the solution into the infrastructure and automate it where possible.

A part of the workload will be developing the infrastructure to support our CI/CD pipeline based on products such as Jenkins and Powershell and make it available to customers.

Your day-to-day activities range from actual engineering the pipeline and coding automation scripts to engineering new or adapted solutions to support our banking organization, which includes applications for both Dutch Retail and Global Wholesale business. You work closely with the Product Owner and the team's Manager.

How will you be doing this?

You are an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with infrastructure automation experience and will work in a team using SCRUM methodology. For the infrastructure automation you are responsible for designing, developing, delivering and supporting the organization in the migration and consolidation using CI/CD based solution.

Our stack

Our multiplatform environment consists of mainly SQL Server 20xx on virtual Servers with some exceptions that use physical Servers. Our current engineering work is based on SQL Server 2016 and Windows 2016 core edition. Our pipeline will be based on your design and tooling that are already available at the bank such as TFS, PowerShell and Jenkins, however we are always open to introduce new CI/CD tooling that fit the purpose.

Who are you?

  • You are an experienced SQL Server DBA in a complex environment (3+ years of experience).
  • You love automation challenges and really enjoy connecting engineering with operational/delivery issues.
  • You get enthusiastic when talking about PowerShell, API's, Rest or other automation options and keeping your solution simple and fit for purpose are your drives.
  • You understand that the "Cloud" will be a very large part of any infrastructure solution.
  • You see the big-picture but like to go in the details to solve complex integration issues.
  • You are a team player and you cooperate with everybody.
  • Your first priority is to make sure your team only delivers top quality code.
  • You coach. We realize that not everybody in the team will be as awesome as you are, but while coaching you colleagues you make them feel that way today to make them awesome in the future.
  • You love receiving and giving feedback as that will improve yourself and people around you.

What skills do you have?

Technical must have:

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server suite of products
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server
  • Excellent knowledge of Powershell
  • Experience with Scripting and automation
  • Experienced in the use of tools like TFS, Jira, Visual Code and similar
  • Experience with AlwaysOn and performance turning
  • Being able to provide 24/7 shift support

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of Desired state configuration
  • Knowledge of Active Directory
  • Knowledge of Networking
  • Knowledge of Storage configurations
  • Experience with working in the financial industry

And the following competence related qualities must have:
