My client is a worldwide name in the automotive industry who continues to be at the forefront of their market. They are looking for a new Mechanical Design Engineer to join the highly skilled team.
About your new role:
In your new role some of your responsibilities will include:
- Conceptual and detailed design, including 3D packaging and design studies
- Supporting design releases and 2D drafting
- Creating CAD models and assemblies using surfacing, solid modelling, and harness routing techniques
- Packaging Energy Storage Systems (ESS) components in new powertrain architecture and installations
- Ensuring the ESS components interface into the wider car including structural, EDS, cooling components, and body panels
- Progressing concepts through to detailed design, prototype, and production
- Understanding the package constraints for the ESS. Working with ESS suppliers, McLaren mock-up team, and dimensional management team to ensure package targets are met
- Working with ESS Project Engineers to ensure design solutions meet attribute targets such as NVH, thermal, durability, and performance
- Supporting links with external organisations such as universities and research organisations on collaborative projects
- CATIA V5 experience (2D and 3D)
- Experience of designing systems such as hoses, pipes, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers
- Understanding of electrical elements such as harnesses, distribution systems etc.
- Experience of design and release of moulded plastic/machined or fabricated metal or similar
- Logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Technical knowledge of component manufacture and tooling methods
- It would also be beneficial (but not essential) to have prior knowledge of electric-drive systems such as eMotors, control units, chargers, converters
