Description

Project Safety Engineer required to support System and Product level Safety activities. Reporting into the Safety Lead, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of carrying out System Safety Assessment and building reasoned assurance arguments for nested systems within an integrated life cycle spanning the Systems, Software, and Hardware engineering functions.

Typical activities will include:

  • Implement the safety and environmental activities allocated by the Safety Lead, working alongside system engineers involved in Agile developments
  • Produce MBSE safety model views within Integrity Modeller
  • Safety requirements elicitation and decomposition, working alongside the System designers and requirements traceability team
  • Evidence specification and collection in support of establishing the safety assurance argument, working closely with the Engineering functions to produce the necessary V&V evidence
  • Take part in design reviews/work alongside designers to ensure Safety aspects are integrated into the development
  • Update the Safety Model within Integrity Modeller over the course of the project
  • Support the delivery of the Modular Safety Case at the System and Product level
  • Support the identification/specification of Application Hosting safety guidelines
  • Be familiar with environmental techniques and methods, eg POEMS
  • Be familiar with all current and future safety and environmental legislation

The successful candidate will have the below skills/experiences:

  • System Architecture safety analysis
  • Software and Hardware detailed design safety analysis
  • Elicitation and decomposition of safety requirements/objectives
  • Knowledge of key MBSE tools and techniques including SysML would be of particular interest
  • Experience of authoring of Preliminary System Safety Assessments at the System and Product levels
  • Experience of authoring System Safety Assessment at the System and Product levels
  • Experience of authoring of System Safety Case Report at the System and Product levels
  • Knowledge of the key engineering Validation and Verification activities over the full engineering life cycle
  • Producing hazard assurance arguments utilizing GSN
  • Producing integrated system of system modular assurance arguments within an MBSE Agile environment
  • Knowledge and experience of standard safety engineering techniques for design analysis eg FTA, FMECA, RBDs, Event Tree
  • Experience with authoring Software Safety Assurance reports/including application hosting
  • Knowledge of DEF-STAN 00-55, 00-56, IEC 61508; D)-254; DO-178B and C would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the CE marking directives
  • Experience with requirements traceability within DOORs and Integrity Modeller would be advantageous
  • A demonstrable ability to think in nested systems of systems terms
  • Track record of delivery on safety programmes
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering
  • Experience of functional safety and system of systems safety
