12-month contract (Day Rate)

Background:

The client's Department is a major user of the Microsoft SharePoint environment. The internal corporate portal provides a single point of access to knowledge repositories, collaboration facilities, content management functionality and line of business applications used daily by the Department's staff. The portal was originally developed on the Microsoft Office SharePoint Services 2007 (MOSS 2007) platform and a migration project to SharePoint 2013 is almost complete.

This engagement is to ensure the ongoing stability, maintenance and further development of the SharePoint 2013 environment, including patching, the deployment of suitable development environments, ensuring a system which performs well to users' needs and maintaining application functionality. Ensuring ongoing development in a way that allows us to respond to changing business needs is also a necessity of this engagement. It is also envisioned that the engagement will scope, plan and undertake an upgrade and migration process for our SharePoint 2013 farm. This engagement also includes the maintenance and support, until end of life of the SharePoint architecture underpinning 3 remaining SharePoint 2007 sites.

The Resource will be part of and provide mentoring to a small team of three who support all aspects of the Departments SharePoint Infrastructure environments, including a SharePoint farm and a small 2007 farm consisting of 3 sites which are yet to be migrated. The Resource will report to the SharePoint Infrastructure service manager.

Key Deliverables:

The following non-exhaustive list of Key Deliverables are applicable to the current Role sought:

  • To ensure the ongoing stability and further development of the SharePoint environment;
  • To maintain, upgrade, patch and further develop the portal, SharePoint 2013 farm, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum performance and stability in line with best practices.
  • To maintain the remaining portal, SharePoint 2007 environment.
  • To maintain the SharePoint 2010 environment.
  • To scope, plan and assist in undertaking a migration from the existing SharePoint 2013 farm to SharePoint 2016.
  • Support the SharePoint team and other colleagues through mentoring, documentation, coaching and knowledge sharing.

Key Experience/Competencies/Skill-sets

The following Competencies/Skill-sets are those considered most important for the proposed Resource to have experience in.

  • Administering, developing, maintaining multiple SharePoint Environments (2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016).
  • Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 R2/2016 operating systems.
  • T. Infrastructure Support (SQL, Clustering, Active Directory, Networking, Virtualization, Backups, IIS, Antivirus, Resource and Capacity planning etc.)
  • Managing patching on the SharePoint Environments.
  • Migrating SharePoint farms to higher versions.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis within SharePoint environments.
  • Providing effective mentoring to a team of IT. specialists ensuring a focus on continuous improvement and service delivery.

Minimum or Mandatory Requirements

The Resource proposed must have the following qualification -

  • MSCE Certification (SharePoint specific)
  • At least 4 years' experience as a SharePoint Administrator.
  • Experience in conducting a SharePoint farm migration to a higher version of SharePoint.
