Automation Data Scientist

12 months | Aldgate | £300pd through umbrella

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Automation Data Scientist to join the start-up style innovation hub of a UK government department for a challenging 12-month project developing and using the department's infrastructure for analysis of business and security data.

The successful Automation Data Scientist will be the Autonomy Subject Matter Expert (SME) and work closely with two Data Scientists and Innovation Scouts on ongoing projects in the autonomy domain, one of which they will run themselves.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating on all Innovation Hub projects in the area of AI & data science, ensuring that the department are only engaging with truly cutting-edge technology and that due diligence is taken in their procurement/project management of AI and Data Science projects
  • Rapidly evaluating world-class technologies
  • Be a critical red team to all projects with data science/AI considerations running within the Innovation Hub
  • Pitching for funding to run capability pilot studies
  • Provide advice and guidance to projects in the data science realm on the department's personal development portal
  • Presenting study results to the board for the opportunity for the department to invest to bring the capability into the core business
  • Provide education and training to current Innovation Hub staff on the topics of AI & data science
  • Take an active role in mentoring new coders in the department who are collaborating on projects on the department's software crowdsourcing platform

Skills and Experience:

  • Academic background in data science (PHD preferable)
  • Experience of visualisation techniques using appropriate visualisation tools
  • Database and coding skills (eg Python, Apache Spark)
  • Experience of the full data development life cycle
  • Strong understanding of AI and machine learning
  • Experience of statistical modelling, trend identification, smoothing and regression
  • Strong understanding of data programming and experience of practical application
  • Experience of working with technical and business stakeholders
  • Experience of managing automated and manual data workflows
  • Valid SC clearance (preferable)
