Lead Developer - Ruby - JavaScript - Government
A major central government body are currently looking for a Lead Developer with experience in Ruby to join their team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Database service on current operational issues as well as development of replacement service
- Code reviews of services in order to maintain quality and mitigate technical debt risk
- Engagement with technical representatives from third-party vendors
- Raising technical and non-technical risks to surrounding leadership
- Ensuring services are built in-line with the GDS Service Standard and GDS Technology Code of Practice
- Participation and thought leadership with the developer community across the service line
- Supporting tech leads across service line
- Participation in architecture community, interfacing with lead technical architect within the service line and others externally
- Participation in wider organisation Tech Group governance and process ceremonies
- Strategic input on Data Discovery, making recommendations for next steps and creating technical documentation where necessary
Experience Required
- Experience leading technical teams and delivering user-focused services
- Strong software development and application architecture experience, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and at least one programming language
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
- Experience scaling online services
- Awareness of emerging security issue
- Ability to read and understand solution design documentation
- Understanding of how to prioritise work in a fast, customer centric, environment
- Understanding of agile environments, continual delivery techniques and devops cultures
- Understanding of how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience of working to the GDS Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice
