As a Systems Engineer you will operate at platform level and be the overarching technical lead for projects as directed by the Systems Engineer, accountable for the technical solution, its quality and assurance and delivery to schedule. You will coordinate activities between the various disciplines, working in partnership with the Project Managers to ensure a consistent approach to the creation and delivery of our products and advice.
Typically, you will have responsibility for the technical management of all activities on projects relating to a specific air platform or capability, and as such you may be the technical point of contact for our customers, whether they be DE&S, military or commercial. You will engage with our customers to elicit and understand their requirements and manage the process of analysis and decomposition of the requirements. You will also provide significant technical support to the Sales and Bid teams in terms of the creation of the Technical Delivery Plans and estimates, supported by Subject Matter Experts, to develop robust technical solutions.
Within Systems Engineering we are looking for Senior Systems Engineers to fulfil the roles within the Air Engineering business, with excellent leadership skills and who is willing to work in a team environment, both civilian and military. The location of the role will be predominantly Wiltshire but the ability and willingness to travel to other locations in the UK and abroad for detached duties will also be necessary.
Key Accountabilities
The jobholder is accountable for:
- Day-to-day leadership and management of engineering and technical teams to deliver integrated engineering outputs that meet the customer's requirements.
- Ensuring that Systems Engineering gains and retains a 'world class' standard through continuous improvement.
- Working as a key member of the Systems Engineering team to deliver integrated activities to contracted time, cost and quality.
- Ensuring a consistent approach to the integration of engineering outputs across all platform tasks.
- Ensuring consistency of technical processes, methods and tools for the delivery stream ensuring a coherent integration of engineering activity to meet customer requirements.
- Effective capture and analysis of customer requirements.
- Coordination of bids and estimates, generation of technical/solution strategies (eg Evaluation & Test Strategy), Technical Delivery Plans and work breakdown structures to support project cost plans and bids.
- Production of appropriate Technical Assurance plans and ensuring adherence throughout the project life cycle.
- Identification of project technical risks and assisting the Project Manager with the management of them.
- Compliance with business processes and engineering governance.
Essential Qualities
- A strong aerospace background.
- HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant subject, or other qualifications with suitable experience
- Recent experience of delivering multi-disciplinary complex solutions
- Knowledge and understanding of a Systems Engineering V-Model approach
- A good knowledge of UK Military Aviation Authority regulatory publications, certification, Release to Service, and UK military trials activities and processes
- Willingness to travel as required
- IT literate including IBM DOORS.
Desirable
- Chartered/Incorporated Engineer Status or the willingness to undertake the application for registration
- Knowledge and understanding of the clients corporate templates, systems and processes
- Experience of aviation trials
- Experience in the identification of hazards and subsequent risk assessment, combined with the ability to clearly articulate these in written and verbal communications.
The successful candidate will be required to hold SC clearance.
