Description

Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation based in Livingston, are currently looking to recruit a Unix Specialist for a 4 month contract, paying £ per day (inside of IR35). There is potential for a further 4 month extension.

Responsibilities:
Analyse diverse supplier support and maintenance services and implement the most cost effective solution for all platforms under their management.
Provide incident support, fulfil service requests and complete project work packages on a range of Solaris and Centos Linux systems running various line of business systems.
Analyse and interpret complex data from various technologies (availability, performance and capacity) deployed by the client and use the information to deliver appropriate support and carry out root cause problem determination.
Make technical decisions based on the IT technical strategy, the service portfolio for the network, server, desktop and mobile computing technologies, including operating systems and application software.
The post frequently involves addressing new projects and technologies in an environment of continuous change and therefore demands considerable.
Focus on technical activities, planning and co-ordinating technical changes whilst being available to provide advice and guidance to Service Project Managers, peers and technical staff.
Address technical demands from the IT Service Centre, competing projects and complex technical problems within the IT infrastructure platform and make decisions based on information available.

Requirements:
Educated to degree level in an IT discipline or equivalent experience.
Solaris operating system installation support and migration
Oracle database administration
Oracle Hardware
Centos Linux Operating System
Common Unix software systems (such as Bind DNS, NGINX, Apache web server, Tomcat etc.)
Bash Scripting
Solaris Zones
ZFS filesystems
Strong customer focus.
Ability to make sound decisions and prioritise work for self.
Comprehensive analytical skills to comprehend complex technical designs and system performance information.
Ability to undertake problem solving to root cause.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Self-motivated.
Sound organisation and time management.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Works well with a team and can work autonomously.

Knowledge of the following would be beneficial:
Netapp SAN storage
Commvault backup
VMware virtualisation

Desirable:
PRINCE2 foundation certificate or above.
Technical accreditations in one or more areas of technical specialism.
Significant experience in the analysis, design, implementation and support within a diverse range of technical specialisms.
Experience in managing IT technical projects.
Proven leadership in an IT technical environment.
Strong negotiation skills.
