Description

Bid Manager - Contract (6 months) - Essex - up to £550 per day - SC Cleared (and eligible and prepared to undergo DV Clearance)

  • You must have a track record of success on large bids, and be expert in coordinating bid teams, pulling together bid packs, supporting the development of discriminating win strategies and stakeholder engagement plans. You will also need to have significant relevant experience in the C4I market.
  • You will need to plan bid responses, coordinate functions, liaise with customers and partners, manage resource plans and drive output
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work well with others, adapt quickly to changing customer needs and flex between bids as required.

The Key Responsibilities of a Bid Manager:

Leadership:

  • Demonstrate the company core values of People, Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence and work within teams around common visions and goals
  • Demonstrate a winning attitude and perseverance under difficult circumstances
  • Share responsibility and accountability with the capture team and promote autonomy for others as appropriate
  • Develop, communicate, and coordinate team activity
  • Advice on effective bid methods and bets practices based on experience.

Agile Decision Making:

  • Actively listen and solicit input from key internal and external stakeholders and capture and programme team members
  • Determine when change is warranted and commit to a course of action once decision is made
  • Define problems clearly using team inputs, thoughts and opinions
  • Identify alternate solutions, valuing diversity of thought and opinions

Relationship Management:

  • Leverage networks within the company to shape bid responses
  • Actively listen in order to comprehend, interpret, and respond appropriately to internal and external stakeholders and capture/programme team members
  • Communicate openly and honestly to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and capture/programme team members
  • Consistently deliver on promises made to internal and external stakeholders and capture/programme team members through all phases of bids
  • Prepare and deliver clear and concise briefings

Customer Engagement:

  • Be prepared to support engagement with customer decision-makers and influencers and their interrelationships throughout the bid process
  • Stay abreast of bid status, procurement status with the customer and assessing and re-planning appropriate responses
  • Use competitive intelligence tools and techniques to learn and assess customer issues, hot buttons and key performance parameters and appraise competitor's potential solutions
  • Win Strategy Development
  • Support the development/refinement of win strategy, discriminators, and counters to competitor's discriminators
  • Perform comprehensive competitive assessment to develop the win strategy, discriminators, and counters to competitor's discriminators
  • Ensure bids align with capture strategy
  • Support Price to Win development and updates as needed from competitive intelligence
  • Translate win strategy into executable bid and proposal development plan

Bid Management:

  • Work to Capture/Programme managers to run bids.
  • Take initiative to pull bid plans together and communicate them to stakeholders
  • Use proven best practice programme management tools and techniques to establish, update, coordinate and execute bid plans
  • Identify operational efficiencies in bid planning activities including use of lessons learned
  • Identify bid inconsistencies between internal stakeholders and partners to ensure a coordinated bid package
  • Demonstrate ability to gain and maintain stakeholder buy-in and support
  • Work with capture/programme managers to develop proposal strategy, proposal plan, and proposal budget and effectively transition capture strategy to proposal strategy
  • Possess timely and relevant knowledge of the company, their competition, customers, users, and the market to influence and shape bid input

Below is a list of Key Skills required for the (job title), however you will not be expected to have everything:

  • Established experience in the business to business sales into Tier 1 suppliers
  • A strong C4I background
  • SC Cleared (and eligible and prepared to undergo DV Clearance)
  • Expert in bid and proposal management, including winning new, repeat or follow on business through leading and supplying winning proposals
  • Expert in shaping and implementing winning captures into the target customer community
  • Capable of coordinating and motivating a diverse multi-disciplined team in the delivery of innovative solutions
  • Must have strong people and influencing skills that can be applied at all levels in the company, with collaborators and with industry partners
  • Must have demonstrable skill of working with other companies, both large defence prime contractors but also small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
