Description

Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation based in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit a Full Stack Java Developer for an initial 3 month contract on a rate of £500/day (inside of IR35).

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Development Manager, the successful candidate will help to design, build, test and implement new features focussing on retention date management for the data and improving the user journey for depositing data.
  • Understanding user requirements and interpreting design documents
  • Developing code from designs and wireframes for the work packages in the project
  • Conforming to current source code management, release and deployment methods
  • Running formal tests within the current (unit, integration, user) testing framework
  • Liaising with external development teams, where applicable
  • Documenting all their development work

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in in Core Java, frameworks like Spring, Hibernate
  • Experience with Restful APIs
  • Experience of using Linux via command line
  • Experience of using Docker
  • Knowledge of best development practices, including use of GitHub
  • Development of web-based applications
  • Development of webpages from wireframes
  • Development of large data archive systems
  • Exposure to formal release and testing methods
  • Some system design experience

Desirable Skills:

  • Conversant in system design techniques
  • Experience with message queuing
  • Exposure to encryption techniques
  • Experience of HTML, CSS and JavaScript/JQuery
  • Familiarity with Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) API
  • Experience of Oracle or other cloud (archive) services
